Any Canadians using Shaw Direct
Looking for some feedback from any Canadian members that may be using Shaw Direct. If so, how is it working for you? How is it for setting up on campsite, etc...We are contemplating getting it for next season. Will they let you disconnect for the winter months? Any insight would be appreciated.

Greetings- I use a Winegard carryout. I use my receivers from home and just change the channel mapping from new 3 satellite to the old satellite map. This was my third season with Shaw. I also take a receiver from home to the Trottage as well on an old style dish. They now offer a basic channel package for $35 month as a add on.

I thought about using the Winegard as well, but it's pretty expensive for the 30 or so nights a year we will use it...at least for the next couple of yrs...but i do like what I hear about the ease of set up. This would be strictly for the trailer as we have Shaw cable, internet and phone at home and dont envision switching to Shaw Direct for the house...I did see on their site that they offer a Lite package for $35/mth...that's all I would need.

Have shaw direct. Easy to set up and yes you can put it to sleep for the winter. Is handy to have a good compass when setting up.

And hopefully a campsite that gives you a clear line of sight for setting up the dish.

Compass is necessary and yes I camp in the trees and find a hole in trees every time. I wish there was more gain on the dish, even in wide open sky the signal never hits anywhere above 65% to 85 % top signal I have had.

Doesn't the Winegard do its own set up like the Tailgater?

Yes it does but you need to see in my case 239 degree at 25 dress elevation. But I camp in Provincial Parks that are forested, I have my favourite sites but often graze trees to get a signal. I have a compass on my BlackBerry but the Silva compass copy works much better.

Using Shaw Direct
We use Shaw Direct at home and in our Siverback when we are at the camp grounds and also in AZ. You need the "Home away from Home" package as mentioned earlier at 1/2 the price of your home program. Using the large dish, signal strength is +90's even in AZ. I have not had any problems finding the satellites. I was told last year that apparently reception was good even in mid Mexico.

Shaw Direct in the U.S.
We have a Winegard dome on our motorhome and thought we could not get Shaw Direct on it. Is there anything special we need to do to the system?

I use Shaw direct and have had no problems but I also have the traveller automatic antenna fixed to the roof, and yes you can cancel for part or parts of a season

Shaw Direct in the U.S.
Thanks for your responses. Where do I get the "Home away from Home" package? I looked on the Shaw website but could not find any reference to it.
