Any way to adjust fridge and freezer temp. separately?
Just got back from a 3 day camping trip. The fridge temp. was perfect at 40 degrees but the freezer stayed at 10 degrees, which should be at 0. Is there any way to adjust the freezer temp. without making the fridge too cold?

Your typical RV absorption fridge freezer temp should be aprox. 30 degress less than the fridge section. I would say yours is operating properly.
No, you can not adjust the fridge temp and freezer temp seperately.
Your typical residential fridge freezer is normally around 0 degrees.

10 or 0, either will work fine. Ours hardly ever makes it to zero, usually between 5 and 15. I just looked at the high low temps, reset a couple of days ago, and it has ranged from 6-14. Even 15 keeps our stuff frozen just fine.

The only things I had in the freezer for this trip was a bag of ice and ice cream. The ice was fine but the ice cream was very soft. I guess I will just have to get used to eating my ice cream that way Thanks for the info, everyone.

Zinger.....the thermostat slide types are pretty ineffective. Set it to the coldest spot. These temps you have are within range. I myself have a D-cell Camco fan in the refrigerator AND freezer compartments. It helps to circulate the air. My temps pretty much stay at 4 and 32. Once in a blue moon I'll see a mild piece of ice in a liquid in the fridge,,,,but it hasn't been a problem. Being as I was in the refrigeration business, residential AND commercial, for 40 years, I've tried several things,,,,,what I've done is the best with what these babies will do. I highly recommend the fans. The D cells last about a month and then you have to replace them. Booddocking said it right about not being able to separately control or modify the two temps.

Jim, Do you put the fans in the refrigerator where your food is and if so where do you put them top or bottom? ? Thanks Cyndi

Cyndi.....anywhere in the fridge does a good job of circulating the air and keeping hot and cold spots mixed to a good temp for anywhere in the fridge. One thing,,,,make sure you defrost those coils every once in a while. When the coils are solid ice, you've let it go too far and that'll affect the cooling process. You also need to defrost the freezer at the same time. A hair dryer does a good fast job.

Being that we're camping here in Missouri, ours recently defrosted on its' own and we had water in the bottom bins. Is this normal. My wife thinks there's an auto mode for this, but I doubt it. Other than that, the frig and freezer seems fine.

Thanks Jim I'm going to get those fans. Does Camping World sell them? My refrigerator also freezes food sometimes especially if I haven't opened the door in a while and when traveling my ice cream gets soft. Guess that's just something I will have to deal with. Cyndi

Cyndi,,,,,your ice cream will get harder after you put the fan in the freezer,,,,,It pulls the cold off the back wall where the evaporator is. I'm sure you can get them at Camping World,,,,get the whitish/greyish ones. The blue ones aren't worth a flip....not enough air flow.

Gfarmcafe....there is not an automoatic defrost on these units,,,,BUT if the temperature was satisfied at the thermostat, it would have shut off and the frost on the fridge coils would melt. If the fridge is at a normal operating temp,,,,check to make sure the drip tray is properly mounted and that it's not clogged up at the drain causing it to overflow.

Actually 40F is not perfect. It's the top end of safe food storage temps.
Mid 30s is better.
While these new dometic fridges are not adjustable you can purchase an
adjustable thermister on Ebay.
Dometic Thermistor Repair DM2652 DM2662 DM Models RM2601 RM2820 | eBay
Be sure you order the one for your model refer.
My fridge would never go below 40F until I installed this adjustable thermister. First night's test it went down to 28F in the fresh food side.
Fridge was empty -- just a test.
After nudging it up over a 3 day span I've got it cooling to mid 30s.
I assume the freezer compartment will also be slightly colder but have not
put a thermometer in there to test.
It's literally a 10 minute install.
Be sure and shut off all power to the fridge.
You want the interior to be very dry so it's helpful if the unit is off and warm inside.
Cut the tip off the old thermister
Cut the wire on the new adjustable thermister- it comes very long.
Splice on the new one using your own butt splices or the supplied tiny wire nuts.
Peel off the sticky back of the new adjustable thermister and stick to the
wall near the cooling fins.
Use a piece of clear packing tape to secure the wire to the wall neatly out
of the way.
Re-power the unit and give it a test run.
Happy trails!

Thermistor Adjuster for Dometic
I found this last night when contacting Dinosaur about the 702 fridge to see if they had a better control board. Check their products list and at the bottom was "Thermistor Adjuster for Dometic refrigerators" that plugs in between the sensor and the board.
I have had occasion to purchase two of their boards for different products and they did what was advertised. It's worth a look see if an adjustment is needed.

2015 Cruise lite, standard trailer fridge, auto control, no adjustment. Lucky to get 10 degrees F. Ice cream only on the bottom and only 1/2 gallons. Novelty ice cream doesn't stand a chance.

I made my own circulating fan. I purchased a small (2") computer fan and wired it across the refrig light switch. I just nylon tied it to a shelf. Whenever I close the door the fan runs circulating the air. Works great. I got the fan for $5 at a surplus sales.

Thanks for the information. After the frost melting late last week, we haven't had another problem. I think the door was "cracked open" that caused it, but totally not sure. We've had the camper out in all types of weather and it hasn't happened before.
