Anyone heard of this?
I was told by a service writer that a residential rv refrigerator should run constantly and not be turned off due to the fan motor possibly seizing. Kinda strange I thought since everyone doesn't have access to shore power all the time....

I think the service writer moonlights as a refrigerator sales person.

If you're pretty sure that's what he meant it's probably time to find another
service writer!

Most of the writers really don't have to much of an idea about the units. They just write the tickets, and send it to the techs. This guy just happened to be in the office when I dropped my unit off for service for the fridge. I deal with the manager....my unit is usually in and out within 2-days when it has needed service.

You can always tell when a service writer is lying ... when his lips are moving.

Fan motor? On a refrigerator? Someone help me out here. I know about compressors (with integrated motor), condensers, and evaporators, but fan motors? What, to circulate some air for auto defrost?

Sounds like a solid business decision by the service writer.

Don't know American politics that well but if you get free electricity we are moving down there. Our electric bills here in Ontario are outrageous. We keep warm with little giggles like this now and then. Old Guys (Brian and Joanne) P.S. Okay that is enough thread theft for now.

Wumba,,,,,my career was 40 years of appliance repair. The info you were given is wrong. If the fan locks up, it's because the bearings were going bad anyways. There is absolutely no reason to shut it off to prevent this from happening.
