Audio/video connection issues

My trailer has the red/white/yellow plugs in the entertainment center next to the DVD player.....I connected cables from there to my tv and I don't get any picture just sound

I have a samsung tv, it has the red/white and red/blue/green with the green being the yellow too

I even tried a video cable that plugged into the front of the DVD player that said av and still no luck

You have to select the INPUT on your TV remote...it is generally on a key labled input on the remote...if not...you have to go into the menu and select source or input. You are probably on cable or antenna input now...you want to get to either composite inputs or AV1 or AV2 type inputs. Hope this helps.
If this doesn't work then I would guess that you have to pull the DVD player to access the back as the other end of the yellow plug is likely disconnected.
Yellow...video...red...right audio...white...left audio outputs on the DVD...same on inputs on the Samsung.

If this doesn't work for you...it would be helpful to know the model numbers of your entertainment system and TV.

If you use the "Y" of the component input for composite video, you must select that input in your TV's input menu.

Herk...is that off a Samsung? Interesting, I've never seen the Luma (Y) combined with standard composite before. They must have some sort of extraction filter for when it is used strictly for Luma rather than the full analog luma/chroma signal.

Thanks...always nice to learn something new!

I have a source button to select tv,cable,av, and it's even dummy proof with a little photo of the connection.....

I guess next step is figure out how to pull the DVD player out to check those connections

If I recall correctly I have the 32" Samsung 5500 smart tv

Ahh...pretty much as Herk showed it...so as long as your yellow cable is plugged into the Y jack that is labled video...you should be getting a video signal from the DVD accessible with the source button on your remote.
So...yep...ya gotta check the other end of that yellow cable to insure it is plugged in.
While you are there...if no bad connection is obvious.... EITHER try substitution of another cable from there direct to the Y input on the TV to see if the cable could be bad. OR using a multimeter set to OHMs check for continuity on the center pins and also the shields of the cable to insure there is good wire.

If that fails...you've probably got a bad output on the DVD player. Noting the back of your TV...if your DVD unit has an HDMI output that is unused...you could try that as an alternative connection to the TV. Otherwise...it is a service/warranty issue.
I should note that it could ALSO be a problem with the Samsung input...but I'm betting on the DVD unit. Good luck!

Thanks....I'll try to get the DVD unit out this weekend to check those connections, I get sound just no video

I think a used ps3 will go in the trailer in the future to have a backup, plus I can play games when I haul the trailer to cookoffs to pass the time

"Color Stream" is Toshiba "speak" for their "component" high def.

Jumping back to the original post, you said you plugged a cable in from a set of connections next to the DVD player to the TV, and then from the front of the DVD player to the TV?

Those are generally Inputs, not Outputs.

If we're talking about one of the all in one RV units (like the Genesis or Jensen, etc..) then I'm willing to bet the sound you were getting was coming from the trailer's speakers, which are hooked up direct to the player, than from the TV.

If that's the case, you need to see what they installed to hook up the output of the player (should be on the back of the unit) to your TV.

One would assume that the av plugs on the wall would be a connection to the back of the DVD player

I tried the av outlet on the front of the DVD player directly to the tv with a separate cord that I had with no luck

The sound still played from the trailer speakers and not once from the tv

Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you meant next to the DVD player, not up by the TV. Yeah, the ones up by the TV should be connected to the output from the back of the player.

The one on the front of the player though, should have been an input.

I'd still pull the DVD and see what's connected back there. The wiring was all messed up on my Brother in law's trailer and they had those jacks wired into inputs on the back of his unit instead of outputs. Then they had a cable from those jacks to an input on the TV. So his unit was wired input-input instead of output-input. Beside that, they had an HDMI cable run between the DVD and TV, which did work right, so their messed up wiring was not only wrong, but also redundant.

Good catch!

Those sockets are INPUTS to the Gen 3 and not outputs for the TV.

Actually, based on the photo I'd say it's a Jensen. But there's a glare so it's hard to confirm.

Well, that makes checking easy...your output jacks are the bottom 3... and if you want sound out of the TV as well...you can run a new red/white jack cord off those open jacks and hook it to the input on the back of the TV only the lowest yellow jack should have a yellow plug already in it. If not...there's your problem.
If it does...I'd pull those wall A/V connections and insure you have the right connection there as well.

Just a suggestion then. Take a different and long RCA cable while you have the back of the radio still available to you. Replace the current yellow cord with the new cord plugged into the lowest yellow jack on the Magnadyne. Then take the other end and plug in to your TV 's Y jack. Pop in a DVD and see if you can see anything when you select the source on your TV.
If that doesn't do it... you could try it on a small TV monitor or game screen if you have one. If not... time to ship that puppy back to Magnadyne.
Hope something works for you!
