Several of the fan manufacturers make remote controlled vent fans and lids. Did that in my “me short, too tall ceiling”.

These solve the too short, need a stick issues...

I've chanded all my fans to MaXxFan Deluxe.
Blow air in or out. Use as a ceiling fan with the lid closed. Auto close rain sensor. Auto on at pre set temp. Low profile when closed. No need for separate cover. Hand held remote.

Seriously, have never had any problems with black tank fumes when the fan is running.

Climbing on the potty is not an option. An auto opening unit would be cool. Plan to explore that option.
We only run ours when showering to pull out moisture, and during potty breaks...
I'm of the opinion that the standard fan motor is a cheap thing that has built-in failure mode. I do not include Fantastic Fans in that category. Fantastic fans are nice items.
Our 5'r also has very high ceilings in the kitchen and the bathroom. Our Forest River Columbus came with remote control fans. So handy!! Also gives you many options as to fan speed, air in or air out and we can set it to come on automatically when the room reaches a certain temperature.

Why?

Does anyone do this in effort to avoid over-sensitive LP alarming?
I haven't read any other posts on here, but we tend to run it during/after a stinky bathroom visit and after showering to carry moisture up and out.

More often than not, once it's first started during the day, it runs until bedtime.

X2. Never had this problem in any RV. Maybe some folks are so full of poop they have to leave the toilet valve open a LOOONG time

Crack the vent open and leave the fan on, open the vent all the way when showering and using the toilet.

Just a note we had issues with our detector going off in the middle of the night once while dry camping two nights in a row. Thought it was the generator even though we used a gentouri. Further checking the unit's propane fittings we found the refrigerator propane fitting was loose. Made up soap and water and went around and checked each and recaulked where a pipe went through a floor. It never went off again so remember to check all the fittings and appliances anytime the alarm is going off.

Not a fun thing to wake up to but waking up is a good thing.

Always run mine when showering.

Also a requirement when my Son in Law is "making a deposit". He has an intestinal tract that generates enough foul gases to ruin the air in a sports stadium

Fixed it for you.
I leave mine running when flushing. It has never brought the black tank odor inside.

Not all fans are created equal.... OEM fan was about 4 inches little blades... fantastic fan moves some air on low... med and high and you can feel the draft of air under the door. Best upgrade you can do.

Fan on when showering and using the toilet, and until the air clears. Off when flushing, our last two campers would really smell bad if we didn't. Haven't had that with this one so far, and not looking to find out the hard way. Remote controlled power vent/fan in the kitchen area, it's a nice feature to have. We rarely leave them open anyway, as most of our camping is in south Florida and the Keys and the A/C is in use almost the time.

Just to set the record straight, wifey says her stuff doesn't stink, so she doesn't need to use the fan, but I do .

If you run the vent fan in the bathroom with the flush valve closed on the toilet, there is no danger of drawing in sewer-style fumes. Also, if you open your black water tank drain valve after hooking up your sewer drain hose, and then open the flush valve in your toilet, and then turn on your vent fan, you will get a blast of sewer fumes that will turn the stomach of a buzzard foraging next to a cess-pool. Don't do that.

I turn it on when parking and need it to pull heat out to help ac cool down. And, while showering to pull out heat and moisture.

When taking a shower its always on, AC running or not. The Maxxair fan in the bathroom moves a lot of air if you have the windows open in another room. From our hybrid TT days we’ve found that moving air in a camper is important to control condensation.

We never boondock so those who do may be concerned about using up battery capacity.
X2,,,, plus, we are smokers,,, we only smoke in the bathroom with the door shut and fan on when we're inside

Bathroom Fan

We only run the bathroom fan when using the bathroom for its intended service or showering.
