Blown microwave

Has anyone had a microwave do this. 2007 V-Lite . It still works or seems to.
Don't know how or when it happened. Thought it was fine when we put it up for winter. Got it out to get ready for a trip and found this. The glass on the turntable was also broke

The hole below the burn mark is where the microwaves enter the cooling chamber. It is normally covered by a mica window that is transparent to microwaves. If it gets covered with food it can burn as the food heats up. The oven will work but you should not use it too much before you replace it. You can buy them and easily replace it. Search mica and your oven maker.

Something similar happened to me with my Flagstaff pull trailer. A loud bang then RIP microwave.

I priced Magic Chefs then quickly ruled that out. I took the dimensions of the microwave height, width, depth and found something on special at Target for $50. Red! Really added some color.

As long as the microwave is no larger than the opening of the decorative flange(?), escutcheon plate(?) cover(?), a no-name replacement will work, though you may have to slightly adjust that decorative cover when screwing it back on. Don't worry about the new microwave being an inch or so smaller all round. Once installed, it's pitch black back there, you don't notice it.

There is an anchor bracket that screws into the back of the microwave. I think I had to drill a pilot hole into the back of the new microwave to get things lined up. Check to make sure that you have a screwdriver that fits those screws.

If necessary, swap out the feet to get the replacement at about the same level.

It was relatively straightforward, and I can barely figure out how to get the lid off the peanut butter jar.

Thanks

We ordered a new Microwave that fits.
The Cover over the area was laying on the glass turntable and was partially melted.

I have yet to figure out the reason for this to happen but will not be taking any chances with the old one.

Thanks to everyone for their responses.

You might want to advise the manufacturer. This is why fire reports ask for make model and serial number so it can be tracked. Could lead to a recall.

Looks to me like some part of the insulation for the magnetron gave out causing arcing. You know how you can get an arc if you accidentally microwave a spoon in your coffee cup? It'll do the same thing to the metal of the cabinet if the insulation fails. That arcing also probably blew out the mica window.

That you got 12 years out of a consumer-grade microwave is impressive. Usually 3-5 years is about as far as they will make it .

The mica cover can get covered with grease and food particles which do generate heat from the waves and will burn.
