Buzzing in speakers while outside lights are on

Hello everyone,

We bought a new 2012 Shockwave T26FQ toyhauler that was equipped with the Kicker stereo system. Sounds great until you turn the porch lights on that are on a factory dimmer switch and then you get a horrible buzz from the inside speakers . So when I took my trailer to my local FR dealer I was told that this is a factory defect and the repair is to replace the dimmer switch with an on/off switch. There has to be a better solution ! I like being able to tone down the lights while the kids are inside watching a movie. Does anyone have a better solution to this issue?

Thanks,

Dave Sanderson

I haven't seen an RV specific model, but they do make higher quality dimmer switches at most hardware stores that claim to eliminate any noise/interference.

This may help:

Upgrade Dimmer Switch: With dimmer switches, you get what you pay for. Buzzing is more common with cheaper triac-based switches (a triac is the gizmo inside the switch that chops up the current). Better quality triac dimmers have an internal choke or filter that evens out the current and can reduce buzzing. Or, you can go for an even higher quality dimmer that uses an autotransformer, rather than a triac, which causes much less interruption to the current.

Thanks Bryan 2503S,
I will look into that as a possible fix if I can't get a solution from Forest River. It is a 2012 but it is still under warranty as we bought it new last month. It was a dealer demo so we got a killer deal on it. But we do have a 1 year warranty and then 5 more years extended.

I have this problem when I turn on the interior lights which I just installed LED bulbs. Only happens with the LED bulb fixtures... ??? No problem with standard 1141 bulbs.
