Cable tv hookup at campground

I have hooked it up, done the setup option on the remote and scanned and all I get is 2 channels. Any suggestions?

X2 and make sure you did not hook up the cable to the satellite hook up if you have one

There is a little button on the plate where you hook your tv cable to. If you push it in it will turn green. When out it is red. Try tinkering with this button. It may solve your problem.

This weekend was the first time I tried. I made sure the antenna booster was off and it scanned 130+ channels and found none.

Are you sure you were scanning cable channels and not over the air channels?

Yes. There were 10-15 over the air channels that worked just fine.

Maybe there was a problem with the cable connection at my spot.

Is the CG using Direct TV?


Ask the host if your tele has the "right chip" in it.

Usually...if OTHERS at the park are getting cable and you are not...8 of 10 times it is your hookup cable...or the cable connections inside the coach. The other two times it is the campground cable connection.
If you are SURE your cable is good...run it through a window and attach it directly to rule out a "house" wiring problem. Still no picture...check your assumptions about the cable...do a continuity test with a voltmeter on the wire and the shield.
If all is good...chances are you need a longer cable since the one in your campsite is kaput!

(continuity test procedure for coax: How to check coaxial cable with a multimeter | Courage Kenny Handiham Program) Essentially...hook up your multimeter to ohm setting and touch the two leads together...you should see close to 0 rather than close to infinity! Now put the probes on the central wire at both ends of your cable...you should still see close to zero. Finally put ONE probe on the central wire and another at the "screw" side of the opposite end of the wire. You should still see near zero or you have a short.
All good? Call your park host!

Just as a note...I'd add that you can get a lot of small tv's in thrift shops cheap. A 19" flat screen NEW goes for $99 bucks these days at Best Buy and Wally World . Not only are these good for the picnic table...but they provide a very convenient way to check for a good park signal!

It has not been an issue for us till we went to West Yellowstone where we had a lack of sound problem that the host attributed to our TV "not having the right chip" in it even though we had just used DTV at other CG with no issues what so ever.

I ask because I was wondering what you have been told by your host.

If you have a small pair of pliers check that the cable is screwed on snug at both ends.

I was only there for a day and a half so after trying all I knew, I just unplugged it. Thank you for the info though, I will remember that for the next trip!

Next time try hooking the cable to the sat input instead of the cable input. On my camper the connectors were reversed. Once I figured this out I took off the plate and fixed it.

When I encountered this issue it turned out to be the type of cable I was using to connect to the park output. Make sure it is an RGU-58.
