Concertone Stereo feedback noise

Has anyone experienced a problem with their Concertone Stereo system? When we turn it on, it constantly has feedback noise through one or both rooms. We just recently purchased our gently used 2003 Forest River Cardinal, and discovered this problem after bringing it home from the dealer. Contacted Concertone who suggested we re-set it; but it didn't help. With the noise continually on, it drains the battery when not hooked up to electric. Sure don't want to replace it with a new system because new wiring would be needed (according to Forest River).

Please offer any other suggestions for solving this problem. We'd appreciate your input. Going on inaugural camping trip next week. Found this forum today...

Thanks for any help

What model is it? 2 or 3? Or something different.

Ok, first off, make sure to use a battery disconnect when you're not hooked up to power and not using the unit. If not built in, they're a highly recommended add on. Until added, disconnecting the battery works too.

This is to prevent the parasitic drain from killing your batteries. Not only the radio, but the LP, CO detectors and few other devices (depending on what you've got on board) can kill them.

That being said, static (not from a radio station) usually indicates some kind of interference to the speakers. Some people have discovered weird ways their trailer speakers have been wired so it's not a far stretch to also believe yours might be lose connections, or close to electrical lines, or something of that nature. Best bet is to first pull the stereo out of the wall and to check all the connections in the back. Make sure there's no lose and no bare ones. Next, look to see if the bundle of wires is close to any plugs, etc... If so, try moving them away.

After that, if you're still having problems, let us know.

You might be able to find a used replacement on eBay or Amazon if needed.

Guys, at least give him a chance to check the wiring before you have him replacing the radio. 9 times out of 10 issues I've had dealing with car radio installs have all been traced back to faulty connections, and the 10th time was electrical interference. I haven't encountered a head unit yet that needed to be replaced due to static.

Not saying it doesn't happen, but unit replacement shouldn't be the first step.

Does this happen with all inputs. Does it sound bad when on FM radio, AM radio, DVD, TV, etc.

concertone

When the stereo is shut off, we get noise through the speakers whether it's switched to A channel or B channel. We still get the feedback noise. Funny thing is it sounds like music just low and mild.

Thanks for all your input, we appreciate all of your suggestions. We will be trying out your ideas once we bring our unit back to the house this week before our first camping trip.

Besides this minor problem we love our Cardinal!

I think this applies to a radio that is turned ON. His is making noise when it is supposedly turned OFF. He also said it is using up battery power while off. Sounds like a sick unit to me.

jdtravlr, when you turn the unit off do all the lights on the panel go off? With the unit off does the volume control have any effect? Have you heard this noise when it is at home or at the storage place or both? Is there an AM radio tower nearby?
