Yes, Bluetooth will work for playing audio from iPhone and iPad on those units that support that, and with some units even have hands free phone conversations via the stereo and speaker - loved that aspect of the Genesis I had.
But you can't use Bluetooth to stream Netflix (unless I'm just wrong). I figured being able to maximize an existing Apple product with a other product which work seamlessly together along with iTunes might be a good idea, which works well for me. If you already have an Apple TV at home, you can take it with you in the RV. Or buy it for $99 and use in both. Yeah, it doesn't have any games and not much in the way of apps yet, though the newest version coming in the fall might.

Yup use 2 apple tv. One on the main tv one on bedroom. Both hooked up via HDMI cables. Then to watch from phone or pad just swipe and hit air share...bam up on big screen with audio.

When you watch Apple TV and watch HULU/NETFLIX does that count against your data usage? We'd like to do the same but don't have an unlimited data plan.

Yep. It does since they are streamed from the Internet. Anything that you store on the iPad itself doesn't cost anything. We ripped our entire movie collection to take on the road with us for just that reason (my data plan gets used up by my full-time work).

Thanks,Ependydad. Some things are so obvious you just don't think of them. My laptop and IPad travel with us on all trips. Never thought to put OUR movies on either. DUH! I've always packed plenty of DVDs to play though.

When we left for the summer, we wanted to figure out something for TV and had recently cut the cable at home but couldn't afford the data to stream in the camper. I found a wifi hard drive and stream everything over Rokus to the TVs. It's a great setup and holds all of our DVDs plus much more.
Here's my write up on it:
Instructions for ripping DVDs and watching them in my camper

Chromecast works for us
We ended up getting a Google Chromecast system ($39 at Best Buy) to watch internet TV. Hooks up to a HDMI port and gets a WiFi signal from your computer, iPhone or iPad. Yupp, it uses up the data plan if you are using the iPhone as a Hotspot. But it works great if you are in the middle of no where, with no campground cable or wifi.

Being a bit of a computer nerd and an Apple fan boy, I have a different suggestion over the Apple TV.
I just dusted off an old Roku. It works perfect for just about any situation if find myself in.
Load up a usb flash drive and plug it in the back, I have the option for more movies than I'd know what to do with. Usb hard drive would work also.
HDMI output, component and SVIDEO, can't beat the connectivity options.
Wired and wireless options for over-the-Internet streaming if needed/availability.
Cheap and simple. Can't go wrong.

Yet another non-Apple option (and my personal favorite since about 2008), is the WDTV by Western Digital and a drive full of movies (or whatever). I took this setup a step further and removed the crap Genesis 3.0 system (my opinion) and replaced it with a nice home receiver and Bose speakers. The entertainment in the RV is now ALMOST as good as at home and no worries about data limits, wifi signals, low quality picture or sound etcetera. We don't use it much during summer camping, but it sure is nice to have when camping in the off seasons hit and miss weather here in the Northwest.

We got this because it is SO mobile:
Wireless Hard Drive, iPad Hard Drive, Wireless Storage | Seagate
2TB of wireless goodness and we can access it on multiple devices! Movies, TV Shows, Music, Music Videos - whatever!
and...when we are in our Camper, we can airplay to our main TV (with Apple TV)
Last year we found the drive on sale on Amazon for $169.00 - what a buy!

I have a $40.00 solution. Apple Digital AV Adapter to mirror whatevers on your iPad or iPhone 4S screen apps, presentations, websites, and more on your HDTV or HDMI-compatible display in up to 1080p HD (movies play at up to 720p).
My daughter has the 30 pin iPad (not the newest lightning connector). Simply connect this to the device (iPhone, iTouch, or iPad) and then connect the HDMI cable to the DV Adapter and the other end to your TV. Use the source function on your TV to select the correct HDMI input and you get video and audio right through your TV. If you plug in a headset to the iPad, you can watch the video on the TV while using the headphone to listen to the show. This is nice when you don't want to hear the cartoon. Such as when watching the football game on the back TV and your kids are watching Smurfs up front.

Seagate Wireless Hard Drive
Got the exact same drive. I am in the process of copying all my movies (300 so far) to it for the exact same purpose.
