Converter fan intermittently running

While camping last night, in our Prime Time Avenger, we noticed the power converter fan running at the normal speed for about 10 - 15 seconds, then slowing down and making a very slow "whirling" noise, again for about 10 - 15 seconds and then picking up to normal speed. None of the lights were effected. As more lights were turned on, the fan sped up, as I assume it should.

My concern is the whirling noise - is this fan about to die and leave us with an over heating converter? Thanks much in advance.

Normal, don't worry about it. The fan speed is predicated on the component temperature and it's a DC fan so changing speed is normal.

Does it sound different than in the past? If the sound has changed then I'd pull the converter and check the fan. Spin it by hand and see if it feels smooth. Check to see if it's rubbing anything.

You can replace it with a much quieter fan. It's a 12 volt computer fan.

I just want to be clear, the noise we hear, is not just a slowing of the fan speed, but rather, a very slow, and "whorling - rotation" sort of noise... then it comes back to the "regular" speed according to the number of lights on... thanks for the replies... I certainly appreciate them.
