Cutting off antenna mast

Has anyone considered shortening the antenna mast down to about 12"?

No, but I have now. I'm pretty sure it would work just as good. I had thought about going with one of those Jack antennas that don't have to raise up. We use DTV 99% of the time, but locals are nice on occasion.

At least in Heaven, RVs will be perfect, and I won't have to keep fixing them.

My thoughts are to cut it off to about 12" like the Jacks mount and not have to worry about whether it was retracted or not. I know it would be better to retract it as it would put an undue load on the retracting mechanism, but at least it wouldn't get knocked off by some tree branch, etc.

UHF where DTV is mostly broadcast is line of sight.
Now it might not make a lot of difference, but there may be times where the extra bit of mast to put it up just a bit higher might just get that signal a bit better.

I hear Linda calling you! I think she wants you to start counting the blades of grass in the yard again.
