direct tv movies

This question might be dumber than hell. Is it possible to take my Direct TV receiver from home camping with us to watch our recorded movies and tv shows on the rv. television. Thanks

You can, provided you have a portable DirecTV dish to hook the DVR to at your campsite. If not, I don't think that will work.

I believe this is correct. If you don't hook a dish to the DVR/receiver, it won't continue through the boot up process to where you could just watch pre-recorded content.

Yes, we take the receiver with us, I just set up a outside dish, it could not be easer, it takes me about twenty min to set it all up and get the signal.

Sometime you can find an independent Direct installation tech and he can set you up with a dish and a mount for under $75.00.
Heck another receiver installed and setup in my TT was $99.00 plus another $6 a month. Since my TT is here in my yard it is set up and live all the time with the DVR set to record all our shows we want to watch.

Maybe its just my DirecTV receiver (older model), but I can watch recorded movies without hooking up to dish. It would be easy to check at home - just remove the cable(s) from the receiver, reboot the receiver, and see what happens.

Nope, it's not just you. I can do the same.

We just take the Directv receiver from home and watch all our recorded shows. No dish needed!

Sure. Same as when a storm is brewing and the Satellite is out at home.........just flip over to recorded movies/shows, and keep on trucking.
