Angry Direct TV Problems

Since I don't have my 10 year old grandson to help me solve this I need some help from the entertainment system gurus. I have a 2014 Rockwood 8289ws with the Genesis 3.0 system. I connected my Direct tv receiver using the yellow video, red and white audio out on the receiver to the switch under the tv in the living room. It has several plug ins I connected the same cables to the one that say's Sat red and white to audio and yellow to video. I can get sound but all I get is a black and white picture on Direct tv poor quality and no color. I did set the switch under the tv to the sat position which is the second one down from the top. I suspect it is a setting in the Genesis 3.0 but with the hiqh quality manual that came with it I was not able to figure out why poor picture quality and no color. I tried to get into the video setup on the genesis but it will not let me do that. Any ideas would be appreciated. I am using an Anser carry out for the antenna and am getting 98% signal strength from the 101 satellite. I also am going straight from the dish to the receiver until I can get it working.

Just a guess, but sounds like the TV is looking for component AV and it us hooked up for plain AV/RCA inputs? Or vise/versa maybe? I had that problem when I first added a dvd player to our bedroom TV.

I've always had better luck with HDMI cables than the red, white and yellow RCA plugs. Do you have that HDMI options on your TV and satellite receiver? If so, it would make it easier as you just plug one end into the receiver's HDMI slot and the other end of the cable into the HDMI slot in the back of the tv.
