I have had Directv for 20 years. All kinds of dishes, all flavors of receivers. I only use them for SD. I am ready to install a Winegard crank up on my new 335. It seems that Directv will discontinue SD service in 2019 and I am wondering if I should drill that 1-3/4 hole in my roof. I know that nothing is forever...except roof holes. They won't abandon the 101 satellite orbit and it would seem like an 18 inch dish pointed at 101 should continue to work beyond 2019, maybe with a new lnb and receiver combination. Have searched far an wide to no avail. Anybody know the answer. There are a lot of 18 inch dishes out there.
I have a hard time putting non factory holes in my rv for any reason, so i would just use a portable. Since your using sd, its even easier to aim a 18" round then a sl3 or sl5.
I dont understand why people say this. It is no more difficult to align a Slimline (HD) dish than it is a round dish.

You are correct. But, For some of the sites ive been in, I barely have a path through trees to get the 99 and 103 birds along with 101. Sometimes I have no issues. Other times ... not so much
Im thinking about putting DirecTV portable antenna for my Salem. Should I go the ectra expense of HD now or just go with SD. Plus I need to have 2 TV's attached.
