Dometic A/C - Honda EU2000's

Hello. I have a 2014 Silverback 33RL. I hope to take a long trip soon, so I wanted to be sure I can run at least one of our A/C's using the Honda EU2000 generator kit. Everything's good except that neither A/C will start. The A/C controllers light up and is set on "Cool", the fan is silent and I get no cool air. I tried each of the two A/C's independently and got the same results. I didn't find a tripped circuit. I was able to run either of the A/C's at a camp 30a circuit recently. Where did I go wrong?. Thank you!

are you using one generator or 2 in parallel?

A single 2000 watt generator simply isn't big enough to handle even one air conditioner.

I've heard 'reports' that a 2000 watt would run a 13.5k A/C unit but I've never seen it personally.

I have a Honda 3000 Handi, It will run one AC if its not in ECO mode, A 2000 won't run anything but a Microwave in this 100 deg temps IMHO

My two Honda 2000s in parallel will easily run the main air in my 2014 Silverback 33RL. I wouldn't even try with just one 2000, however.

One is not going to get the job done. You need a 2nd one using the parallel cables to mate the two together. Cost about $1100 more Later RJD

Hi,

If you havent already, you might want to check to be sure all other 120 volt devices are off -- killing them at the breaker if necessary. It's possible that the electric element in the water heater, your converter, and/or some other 120 volt devices are putting you over the top.

If the AC is totally isolated and still won't run, I'd be looking at whether your two generators are correctly paralleled, and if both are putting out good current at the prescribed level.

Yep, what Rich said. If your thermostat is set to cool, fan on auto, and temp set as high as it will go, you should not have any problems if you are using the correct output on your generators. My old gennies are different from the new ones as far as output plugs. Mine has an RV 30amp plug wired into the parallel outputs so I get a full 30 amps.

I was just looking at the newer Hondas and looks like the companion generator has an RV 30amp plug built in that works with the parallel cables. I learn something every other day

I have to agree.
If hooked up properly to two generators in parallel, you shouldn't have a problem getting ONE of the A/C units to run.
I'd be checking to be sure the output of the generators is what it is supposed to be.

My twin Honda 2000's work my AC fine when plugged into the 30A plug on the generator. The AC does suck the fuel and continuously filling the one gal tanks is a royal pain. I came across this on the forum and it works great! I now have 8 gal instead of just 2

Yep. I actually bought 2 "companions"
That way when it's cool and not running any ac I can use either one.
I give up a 12volt output, but I never use that anyways.

I have a eu3000 and it runs my AC in my 272BH no problem. Likely wouldn't run the microwave at the same time though. Never tried it to be honest.

My 30a power cord doesn't attach directly to the inverter. I made up a plug/box/cord to make it work. Been using it like that for a few summers now, but only when "rippin hot out", lol Likely this weekend by the looks of it.

The output on the 3000 is 23.3a outlet.

I just finished 10 days camping in 100 degree weather in OK with this setup and had no problems. Ran in economy mode. All breakers off except AC. The AC is 5 year old 13.5K Coleman. Couldent even start it before installing the easy start.

2 Honda EU2000s in parallel should be able to put out 26 amps continuously, with an even higher surge capacity. If the Hondas are running in ecoboost off, and their circuit breakers are not tripping, something else is wrong.

Do you have a power management system that will not allow a non grounded source to input shore power? One thing I learned about my Progressive Dynamics EMS is that when using my Honda gennys, I must connect the Honda negative and ground receptacle outputs for it to work. There is an easy way to make a receptacle plug in adapter that will make the Hondas appear "grounded" to the EMS.

Like others have said, check your parallel wires. There should be a L and R on the ends.

We had just gotten back from our 2 week plus trip and our daughter wanted to stay the last week she'd be visiting in the trailer since it had been so fun for her and our 2 grand daughters, so we thought the (OLD) 4200 watt generator we have had for years would be powerful enough to run the A/C since we got back just in time for the heatwave to hit for the week and over 100 inside the trailer by the afternoon was too much.
Got the generator going and no way!! When the A/C compressor kicked in the volts went down to less than 90 so I shut it all down before damaging the A/C unit.
The next day we saw Camping World had the Campion Dual Fuel 7500 generator on sale online and the local (2 hours away) Camping World honored the Internet price so out the door was just under $1,000.00.
The Camping World version has the 30 amp and 50 amp direct plug ins so no adapters needed, and it had some good reviews so knowing my wife and I would be needing a more powerful unit later anyway, we bought it.
Got it back home and except for the noise, 74 Db like the add says??? Try 91 Db on the plug side and 104 Db on the exhaust side, and yes that's about 5 feet from it but you still can hear it running all over the property, 5 acres, so it is NOT as quiet as was said!
But, it runs the trailer with no difficulty so we're happy we bought it. I love the hour meter that's standard, it shows running voltage and running Hertz also on the display.
We already have a Honda EU2000 also and could have spent another $1,000 plus for another one of those and the jumper cables to make them in series, or spent the $3,000.00 plus for the big Honda, however, although louder than we wish it was, the Champion, was a generator worth buying for us. Now problem solved for now and for boondocking later.

make sure your Frig is on Propane and your Water heater is not set to electric. It also helps to make sure nothing that uses alot of power is kicked on. Think Coffee Maker, portable Ice maker, curling iron, or hair dryer
