Dometic Brisk 2 Unit Alternatives
Our 2016 Wildwood with a Dometic Brisk 2 15k unit has stopped cooling. The compressor kicks on and the fan runs normally but it no longer cools. Last summer it would freeze a beer, on our first trip this summer, nada. I’m pretty confident the Freon is gone and I just learned that they are sealed and non-serviceable. It’s out of warranty and if I cannot get Dometic to fix it, I will need to replace it. I surely will not buy another Dometic if I can help it.
What other roof mount A/C unit brands fit in the hole?
Will they work with my existing duct work?
Do it myself or pay an expert?
You experience and knowledge is appreciated.
Thx
Gerald

Dometic, Coleman, Advent, Duo-Therm and others would be able to swap in depending on ducted or non ducted.
But note that they are likely all copies of the same general design and likely all follow the same low quality/reliability template as is seen end to end in this industry. I've had to learn to eliminate all expectations so that I can possibly have a good RV camper experience.

And just because it is sealed does not mean it’s not serviceable. I have added ports to dozens of sealed systems for about $5.00. Find a good HVAC tech and he can add ports, pressure test it, repair most leaks, vacuum it out and charge it up in under 2 hours. Just sain’

Really?
It's R410A - That's available on eBay so I assume someone would have it. I worked on R-12 systems all the time when I turned wrenches. I didn't consider a tap and re-fill. I am going to look into that. Thanks Todd.

My Brisk Air 2 was replaced with a Dometic Penguin. It's a low profile version and for the past 3 years has worked very well. It will fit without issue. The only problem you may have is the Brisk Air 2 is a plug and play unit whereas the Penguin will have to be wired in. The mobile tech that replaced mine had to call Dometic to get a confirmation on wiring it to the existing plug.

I am a HVAC service tech. I frequently have to access sealed systems. I use Supco BPV31 piercing valves (available from amazon) when I need to access the system. You can leave them in place after doing the work or you can braze in permanent Schader access ports that are less prone to leaking. You have to have a section 608 epa card to purchase refrigerant.
A couple of years ago at our annual church camp my brother in laws ac was flat. (No refrigerant in it) We got the parts and repaired it. It was still under warranty so dometic replaced it. We kept it and put it on another friends trailer the next year when his went out. It’s still working fine as far as I know.

One thing to watch out for. Some of the newer models use a digital connection between thermostat and AC unit, different than the old AC-on, Fan-on, Thermostat off-on connection. If your unit uses the digital connection, your choices may be limited unless you replace the thermostat, too--and that may lead to furnace incompatibilities or use of separate thermostats for cool and heat.

I'm looking for a new unit too.
I'm on my THIRD Dometic unit that was just replaced last year and it starting to not cool just like all of the ones before it.
Only used it a couple months last year and a month or so this year.
Dometic AC's are pure crap!
