Dometic Refrigerator door panel falling off

Hi yall, The Oak insert panel on the refer door is very heavy and the plastic clips are not strong enough to take the bumping and jarring of the road.

I've had a problem for quiet a while now but it's gotten to a point where it's happening each trip.

I'm thinking of running some small screws into the heavy oak wood and plastic clip or possible some glue. Anyone have this issue but me? What was your fix?

Ours did the same thing.
Got it fixed when we took it in for various warranty issues.
Hasn't happened again for the past 9 years.

Hey Too Tall,
Take it easy on Too Tall, perhaps you could have suggested contacting Forest River for the plastic dowels and maybe have him pick up some 3M moulding adhesive tape like the other guys have done.

Thanks Crunchman, Too Tall appreciates your kindness. The dowel pins are there but the panel is riding over the top of them. I need to pull them out or run a screw in to lengthen them I guess. What's the tape for? If the 2 ton oak panel doesn't get past the dowel pins, I doubt the plastic will unlatch?

Too Tall,
Although crunchman does not have this model or issue.......
If Too Tall were to remove said 2 ton oak panel from suspect refer, Too Tall could apply 3M tape to refer panel and clamp 2 ton oak panel until adhered preventing said 2 ton panel from riding over inferior plastic dowels preventing plastic trim from unlatching?
Pics?

Oh, now Too Tall understands. Too Tall may have to resort to duck tape.

Hey Too Tall,
You can do it man...
Here is a post from the link you provided. Give them a call.
crunchman

The plastic decoration strips at the bottom of the door are actually not there to hold the panel in place. There should be 2 plastic pieces that look like little dowel rods on each end that hold the panel up and then the decoration strip covers them. Are these missing? If so, if you can provide me with the model and product number off of your refrigerator I can send you some.

We appreciate this opportunity to address your situation, and hope all your future travels are trouble free. Please do not hesitate to contact us any time, to order parts or if we can be of assistance.

The number 6 on the diagram is the plastic peg. Most of the installers of the refrigerator and the panels use a double sided tape to keep the heavy panel secured.

I called Dometic. They said, it's the RV maker that installs the panels to match their decor. Rockwood in my case. So they couldn't help. I'll fix it with some screws. "Too strong never failed".

I ended up doing it this way. A little weird, but I found that a 1/4" screw (I had brass already) would self tap perfectly into the plastic holes where the two plastic pins were. I did have to grind the length down a little. The picture below is without the plastic trim installed. The whole problem is the plastic pins are not long enough and the 2 ton oak door rides over them and falls to the floor. If I'm overweight at the scale, I know what's going first, ha.

Hey Too Tall,
Take it easy on Too Tall, he is not an idiot. Do your self a favor and look at his 2 ton panel mod, good stuff right there. The 2 ton panel no longer falls upon his size 17 clown feet. Problem solved!
(Good job)

Thanks, it was a freaking guillotine. It was either fix it or start wearing steel toes to open the frig.

Domestic Frig

I put in a couple (2) of stainless self tapping screws next to the dowels and problem solved. I don't know why they made that door so heavy....

Poor poor design , to the point when I took our Sun seeker back to the dealer, I said " refrigerator " and the tech said " fell down " before I could finish my sentence.
