Dometic single zone thermostat

I just got an E3 error : shorted indoor temperature sensor. No idea what may have caused it, but is it something I can replace? Or do I need service tech? No heat, no cooling but fan runs fine in all settings. Comments?

Did you try to initialize it according to the manual?

If that doesn't work, it's easy to replace if it's out of warranty.

Initialization did not reset or fix issue. Is the sensor inside the thermostat unit itself or somewhere else along the wiring? If I replace thermostat will that solve the issue?

The sensor is located on the thermostat board. If you replace the thermostat, it should fix the problem.

There are many threads on how to replace the thermostat with less costly ones made for homes. You need to do a search on the forum.

Unfortunately, the new Dometic thermostats use proprietary communications between the thermostat and the control box, so replacing it with a home unit isn't easily possible. You have to change out the thermostat and control box and then route new wire from the control box to the thermostat.

Here's one model of the Single Zone Thermostat that's only $33. Check your model number and see if it'll replace it.

Better yet, take your model number and search for Dometic ######## (your model) and you should find something.

You don't say which stat you have. Is it a digital or analog? Analog sets the desired temp using a slider.
I replaced my analog stat last year with the digital version. It was a straight forward change - disconnected one wire at a time and connected to the same color on the new stat. Probably a 5-10 minute change.
I changed because the control range on the old stat allowed temps to swing over 5 degrees. Me DW was either too hot or too cold. The analog contains the swing to a couple of degrees - a lot more comfortable. As I recall the digital version was about $50. Has worked fine since install on both heat and cool.

Well, turns out the part # is superceeded by a new # and style, but same functions.
They assured me it will work so I ordered it ... keeping my fingers crossed that #3316250.000 is a straight-up changeover.

According to everything I've read, it should be a direct replacement.

I replaced my digital with the new version last year with no issues.

Well, this is truly weird. While restocking RV for next trip and "exercising" the gennie, I decided to turn on the thermostat ... ever the optimist ... and no E3 error showed!! Since it was 90 degrees inside, I set cool at 80 ... unit kicked up and eventually blew cooler & cooler air while I got my chores done.

I ordered, but have not yet received my new part; plan to keep it & replace old if this turns out to be an intermitent issue ... the worst kind.

Bama Rambler: some sort of delayed reset from initialization?

Thanks to everyone for their input.

It's possible that it is a delayed reset from the initialization, but I've never seen that. Though I do think it's been posted here somewhere.

It's most likely an intermittent short in the unit itself and you fooling with it jostling it around cleared it.

At least you'll have a spare if it does it again.

I had an issue with my thermostat/heater on the weekend and wondering if anyone has had this same issue. I dropped the trailer off to my dealership to look into that and a few other things since this was our first trip out.

I have the 2018 greywolf 26bds with the single zone digital thermostat.

Overnight my thermostat wouldn't tell the furnace to come on, it seemed like once the ambient temp of the day increased the furnace worked so I know at least the furnace works.

I tried the initialization as per instructions, pulled all fuses, purged the propane lines to make sure, disconnected and reconnected both 110v power and 12 v battery power. even cranked up the AC temp to make sure there wasn't any communication.

from the instructions it reads the same as what happens for the ambient temp heat pump shut off but I know 100% my trailer doesn't have a heat pump.

It also wasn't super cold maybe got down to -5 C or 23 Fahrenheit
