Dometic - UGH !!!! -warranty/troubleshooting issues.

I bought a brand new fifth wheel last December. Just took it out for the second time last weekend. The refrigerator would not work. I went thru the troubleshooting guide, did everything in it. Which wasn't much I could do.. check the gas, check the electric to it, other than that, shut it down and get it serviced... cost me $180 to find out it has a reset switch and after that, it worked. Since there wasn't anything wrong with the fridge, no warranty coverage.. But, since I did everything the manual said, I feel I should be reimbursed. They feel otherwise. No parts under warranty were not replaced.

I hope they showed you where the reset button was!

I'd actually like to know the model of fridge.
If it actually has a reset the manual should show it.

Did you take it to the dealer you bought it from? If so, I would not have paid them a
2 hours ($90 @ hour) labor charge just to reset a switch or a breaker. It should have been pointed out to you when you purchased it the RV, and it should be in the owners manual.

Dometic manuals leave a bit to be desired sometimes but X2 with Turbs what fridge and where is it? Others recently may have the same problem...

Podge, can you explain in more detail what you did in checking it? Without knowing which model fridge you have, I am assuming you have a 3-way model that can be powered by 120 volt, propane, or 12 volt. You said you checked the electrical to it....which I am assuming you meant 120 volt and had the trailer plugged into shore power...........or did you just mean you checked the 12 volt DC side to it?

If you were only having problems on the propane side, this fridge, like several other LP appliances in your trailer (water heater, furnace) has a safety gas shutoff in case the appliance doesn't light the propane. (Your fridge has to burn propane to cool, and it messes peoples minds up trying to grasp this).

The dometic manual does state how to reset the propane system in case of a "failure to ignite" system shutdown.

I had the problem of the fridge not working last summer. I was lucky enough to call my dealer & they recommended a service company to me. Since I was in the boonies the guy told me where to check. On the stack in the outside fridge compartment there are two wires attached to the stack that come over from the fridge panel. In between the two wires is a reset switch that is not easily labeled or seen. I pushed it in the fridge has worked since then. This switch with pop if the fridge it out of level for too long & it overheats. I had left my Roo hitched up the night before on a down sloping driveway which is what caused it. Now I just hook up before I go & all is well.

That is the stack overheat sensor. It might be hidden behind the wind shield that was added by the "Recall Modification."

I was aware that it would pop when overheated; however I just learned you can push the button to reset the sensor. I had thought it would close by itself when it cooled down.

Thank you. This information is now added to the "Herkbrary"

Thanks also for including that picture of the switch, Herk. I was scratching my head and couldn't visualize it.
