Cool DV3100 - No picture on Vizio TV

We have a DV3100 Radio/DVD player. If I understand the instructions, I should be able to slide the DVD in, use their cable with one end in the aux spot (with the unit on aux) and the other end with 3 plug ins (red, yellow and white) to the TV. Hopefully change the input on the TV to AV and watch a DVD.

The TV never has an input for AV so I can’t get it to recognize any input. So I went out and bought a composite to HDMI converter. Now I have a one for one match. Plug ins from the DV3100 go to the converter. Then I have the HDMI out from the converter to the HDMI on the TV. When I change the input on the TV to a HDMI input I get a blue screen. Still no picture. I know the DVD is playing because I can hear the sound. No picture. Can someone give me some clues as to what I am missing or what I can check? So sorry if I am missing something obvious.

Thanks for any ideas.

AUX spot? on the front of the unit? If that is true the manual says that is an input, not an output. If I am looking at the right unit, I could be completely wrong. Does it look like this?

Yes. If that is an in, then I am totally lost. I have no clue where/how to use the cable they provided.

Here is a picture from the manual of what the back looks like and the wires that attach. Can you reach the back? It looks like the AV cord can plug into 2 different spots. Then maybe into your HDMI converter? With the TV set to HDMI...

Maybe snap a couple pictures? There are some smart folks on this site, I'm sure they will be able to assist.

You are wonderful! What you said gave me an idea. I used the cable that came with the converter and plugged some things in differently and now we have sound and picture. . Thank you so much. This has been driving me crazy for days trying to figure things out.

Now this weekend, with the insight you provided, I may try to get the TV sound out of the built in speakers. . Thanks again!!

I’ll try. I’m not the best. I’m new to this so I’m hoping your RV is similar to mine and has AV hookups on the wall by your TV.

Hopefully I have posted the picture of what I bought from Walmart. If not, it was a Blackweb Composite to HDMI converter. I think it was about $29. The converter comes with the power cord and the needed 3 color AV Cable. I already had an extra HDMI cable at home. If you don’t have an extra HDMI cable, you’ll need to get that too.

Plug the three colored cables into the corresponding colored ports in the trailer and on the teleconverter. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the teleconverter and one in an open HDMI port on the TV.

On the DV3100, change the input to DVD (although I think mine recognized the DVD when I inserted it in the player). Change the input on your TV to match the input of your HDMI cable and you should be in business. Maneuver through your DVD either via the front of the DV3100 or the remote that came with the DV3100.

I hope this all makes sense. Once you have the converter, I think it may be easier to understand what it am saying. This is what bridged the gap between the AV cables and our TV.

I had a similar problem with my Puma 23FB. The sound worked fine but no picture. Someone suggested taking the radio/DVD player out and check the outputs.

FR didn't hook up the video output. I had to drill a hole and run the cable to the back of the TV and I had video with sound. The TV worked fine with the antenna and ASSUMED if the TV worked, then FR had hooked everything up correctly. Why should a new owner have to take the player out of the wall to finish the wiring?

tHANKS MUCH!! this has been a year-long frustration. While we don't spend our time in front of the tube normally, a day or two of rain on a trip and that is a welcome distraction!! Giving your instruction a try!

Marianne, to get sound from the TV into the RV speakers you need to think through the data flow. First, regarding those 3 cables you connected earlier, you really only need one of those connected. That is the video cable, the yellow plug. Unplug the other two, the sound cables. Plug those two cables into the audio OUT plugs on the television and into the audio IN plugs on the back of the radio. Think you are wanting to get the over-the-air sound out of the TV and into the RV speakers. But you don't need to get the DVD sound into the RV stereo as it is already there (playing on the built in player.) Make sense?

Even longer delay in responding. .

I finally had the time to follow-up on your suggestion. At first it didn’t work. I did some research and found out that I needed to go into settings on the TV to change sound settings. . Works perfectly!

Thank you very much for your help!

Great! I'm glad you got it set up correctly. It seems few people understand to use "audio out" jacks on their tv.
