Electric Fire Place fire wheel malfunction

I have a 2010 Shasta Revere with an electric fire place. The fire graphic wheel has stopped turning continuously and has now started to turn 180 degrees, stop, and turn the opposite 180 degrees rapidly creating a very annoying ticking noise every time it changes directions. Has anyone else ever had this issue? were you able to fix or did you just replace the hole unit? Thank you in advance!
Happy holidays!

Sounds like the wheel and or motor are binding. Take it apart and look is all I can suggest at this point

Thank you donniedu! I took it apart and the rod looks good, no binding. The motor seems to be the culprit. seems like a gear may be bad. I wonder if I could just buy a motor replacement...?

Should be able to. I bet the motor is 120volts? If so, you should be able to wire it to a plug and plug it in and seen what happens. Runs smooth? Then something else is the problem. No run? Then replace it. Places like Graingers will probably have replacemet models in stock.

Just as a follow up, I found a replacement motor on amazon and on ebay for $5.49.
In the interim, I just disconnected the wires so the motor wouldn't make that annoying clicking during the chili evenings.
