Holy moly...I wonder if that statement was true about 3-5 burning up a week. (Mine have always been Dometic.)

The article even states that they have been the subject of lawsuits and HTSA recalls for what one is led to believe similar issues.

Please don't make blanket statements like this, unless you let us know where you get your information from. If you have reference material for Dometic owners to read post it here, otherwise be careful about making unsubstanciated statements. If, however you do post something here regarding Dometic refrigerators, I await your subsequent post to evaluate your statement. Thanks.

I wonder if there is a periodic inspection that could be performed to determine if the weld area on the tubing is nearing the failure point. If I had one of these refrigerators, I would like to know that there is some preventative maintenance that I could perform or have performed.

From the article:
Yet the company hasn’t changed the design that a Thetford employee acknowledged in testimony lies at the heart of the problem, a metal boiler tube that can crack, allowing flammable gases to escape. (Sweden’s Dometic Group makes refrigerators with a similar design, which have also been the subject of lawsuits and an NHTSA recall.)

Are you serious?!?!
http://www.dometic.com/enus/Americas...l-Information/
Here is a hint, they ain't recalling them because they don't cool well enough.
Is that "substantial" enough for you?

WOW I just checked my Dometic and it is on the recall list so now I guess I have to drag it to the nearest Dometic dealer and get it fixed...

Please forgive me for asking to see the backup references on "Dometic refrigerators" as well. Seems to me it was a reasonable request for the related article(s), so all Forest River owners who have one of those in their RV, can be better informed.
After all kind sir, that is one of the major benifits of this forum, wouldn't you agree!
Did you really need to be nasty.

The newer Dometic units have the shield and heat activated kill switch installed...

Do I get this right, these recalls cover fridges manufactured before 2006.

Even if the fridges were manufactured 2006 or before, they could have still been put in units several years since if they were in stock at the RV manufacturer. The best thing to do is to check the model numbers.

Bet those engineers who redesigned the unit with a shield and heat activated kill switch, don't live under a rock, like some of us!

OK update due to my poor vision I went back out to check mine out this time armed with my camera took several pictures and the model # is different than what I read and it has the shield kit on it (whew) that made me happy but it still does nothing for the refrigerator having the defect just makes it safer? I guess we will deal with that if and when it happens......

Funny enough, mine is on the affected list but I'm really surprised because the recall is from 2008 for models manufactured pre-2007 and I own a 2014 trailer. Perhaps the 'recall kit' has already been installed on mine because on the page that tells me my model/serial number is included in the recall, there is also a message that reads:
PLEASE NOTE: This website only confirms whether or not the designated refrigerator is on the recall; it does not determine whether or not the recall kit has already been installed on the refrigerator.
I wish there was a way to know that before going through the trouble of taking it in to get looked at. I'll try to Google that and find out...
