Fans in fridge upgrade
Ok, guys I been doing some searching on the forum and found some OK info, I see lots of people are using a startech 80x25 ball bearing fans. The factory ones just make to much dam noise. So my question is can I just unplug the fans for my first trip till I get the new ones? Also what connector should I get the tx3 or the lp4?
Thanks

Are you having a fridge cooling issue or just want to get a less noisy fan?
Our new 33IK would not cool below the mid 40 degree temps. Had new cooling unit installed and did fan upgrade at that time.
I went slightly larger instead of 24 cfm output is 35 cfm. Did not worry about connector cut existing and wired new fan in. Also dropped to 80 degrees for fan temp sensor. Can just barley hear when fan is running. Fridge stays between 34 and 38 degrees irregardless of outside temperature. Freezer holds at 0 to -2.

The factory ones are just two loud. Not a cooling issue at all. The the fans are annoying I want to take the factory ones out and replace them.

Check the site rvcoolingunit.com. I was able to do a remove and replace of the fan I used because my fridge was removed for repair. Our original fan was so loud it made it hard to hear the Tv. If you can not get to the fan or do not want to pull the fridge there are other options as well on this site. Good luck

The fans are easy to get to. They are just below the top outside vent. I think I am going to pull the and replace with two dual ball bearing fans.

Do you have a Dometic or Norcold refrigerator? In a slide out or fixed?
Lots of folks seem to be doing this mod but I honestly have never had a problem with fan noise or fridge cooling in either of our trailers. (Our Roo had a Dometic fridge and our current Rockwood TT has a Norcold.) Of course, I don't camp in 100 °F weather either so maybe that makes a difference?

I used to use a cooling fan over the cooling mechanisms on the outside of the fridge (in the back). I am not convinced that it did much. The main thing back there that seemed important was that the vent at the roof line was clear and free.
Lately I have used a battery powered fan in the bottom of my fridge when I first turn it on. I find that it cools the fridge down much quicker than if the fan is not on. Then when my fridge reaches 40 F I turn the fan off and the fridge remains at 40 F unless it is very hot out (~85-90F) then the fridge gets a little warmer but no more that 50 F. At night it goes back down to 40 F as it cools down some outside.

FYI - If noise is the only issue, a ball bearing fan will produce more noise than a sleeve bearing fan.

A duel ball bearing fan is what people have used. I will record the noise with the fans now and with the fix. They are just to loud. I have a slide out 8289ws and it has a domestic fridge in it.

I had never thought about bearing types in computer case fans but this suggests that sleeve bearing fans get louder as they get older and its the opposite with ball bearing fans - they get quieter with more use. Plus the ball bearing fans generally last longer and sleeve bearings are more suited to a vertical installation rather than horizontal.
