Fire alarm

Why would fire alarm continuously go off if no one is cooking or smoking?. any suggestions. Husband disconnected it so it would not go off at night while sleeping but it makes me wonder, is this also an alarm for other things besides fire?.

Are you for sure talking about a "smoke" detector on the ceiling..... or perhaps a carbon monoxide and/or propane detector?

Could be "end of life", battery failure, or the sensor is contaminated.

We just recently changed the battery. But are going to put a new in again and see what happens. Sensor contaminated?. Never heard of that.

Depending on the alarm, some sample the particulate, and others quantify the particulate.
The sampling happens at a sensor that allows the air in.
Contamination of that sensor will cause the unit to think smoke is present all the time.
If you just changed the battery, I'd just change the detector.

Ok, we will try changing the battery, if not then I guess yes good idea to change the complete detector. Tks
