First time in new trailer - smoke alarm goes off

After the towing incident, I had almost forgot about the previous problem we had on our first time out in new toy hauler. It got quite cold at Soldier Creek reservoir in Utah, even for the last of June. In the morning, we turned on the furnace for the first time. It kind of smelled like it does when you turn on your house furnace for the first time in the fall. Then, about 30 seconds later, the smoke alarm went off, getting the attention of everyone near to us in the campground. I am glad I didn't turn it on in the middle of the night (I almost did.) We hurried and turned the furnace off and opened the door and the alarm went quiet. We tried it again later in the day, and it seemed to run fine, not triggering any alarms. Wondering if this is normal.

Was that the first time you ran the furnace. If so, it's probably the furnace oils burning off.
Dealer should have advised you to run it first before leaving, to burn them off.

My second wife thought the smoke alarm was the kitchen timer.

Yes that's pretty normal. It also may happen for the first few times you start it up. I usually start ours up a time or two at the beginning of the season at home before we leave just in case that happens.

Turn it on, let run for a cycle or two and it will burn all the manufacturing oil off of it and it will be fine.

I have to set my toaster under the stove vent and turn the vent on or it sets off my smoke alarm

Yep, the wife likes dark toast. Always have to put it on the range under the hood.

I take it you're now on you're third or more wife or no longer married?

Or do we have your permission to quote you on that?

Being a new RV and burning off the oils is a probable result of smoke detector going off. Good job on your reaction.
Got a chuckle from SeaDogs reply...when the smoke detector goes...dinner is ready...haha
Smoke/CO2/LP detectors in the RV...our friend.
