Furnace emitting smoke

I have a brand new Forest River Forester that we took out on her maiden voyage last week. It was cold at night so I turned on the furnace and set it at 80. It seemed that the A/C and heater were running at the same time as there was cold air coming from the ceiling vents and hot air coming from the floor vents. The smoke alarm went off and I figured since it was a brand new furnace, it was emmiting some fumes. The motorhome then filled with smoke so I shut it off and haven't turned it on since.

First of all turn you fan switch to auto not on.
Second it's normal to get a little smoke as the furnace burns off manufacturing oils.

A good dealer would have done that for you.

Yeah, it takes about 30 minutes to burn off whatever gets on it during manufacture.

Your dealer should have told you how to resolve both of these.
Smoke. There is an oily substance used during the manufacturing process that needs to be burned off before using the furnace the first time. You should run the furnace for 30 to 60 minutes with all the windows open ( smoke detector disconnected) before the first time you need to use it for real heat.
AC fan.
You have the fan on low or high. Set the thermostat fan to auto. On low or high, the AC fan ( fan only) runs along with the furnace fan to help circulate the warm air.

A good dealer would have told you this during the PDI.

Thanks for the info... I'm going to run it for a while and see if it clears up. I'm trying to avoid driving it 3.5 hours back to the dealer.

This is normal for any new furnace. Run it with windows open and you will be fine.

Yep one of the first things the dealer should have told you. Most Dealers do not run the furnace during a PDI or prior. Later RJD
