Furnace problem? need help

The furnace started acting up lately, or could it be the thermostat?
to get the heater to turn on we have to turn the temp on the thermostat up to 80+ then it turns on and runs till it reaches that desired temp. but if its 60 inside and we want it say... 70. the furnace wont turn on with it set at 70 we have to turn it up to 80+ to get it to turn on. Make sense? I checked for spider webs, wasps nests ect, propane source..no probs found there. we are full timing it, so its been in use since august. we only turn the furnace on as a backup heat source to keep from alot of burning propane and saving wear and tear on the unit. we have 2 of those oil radiant heaters which most of the time keeps it nice and toasty.
anyways, any ideas on the furnace or thermostat? what else should i check ?
I called the local "REPAIR" guy he had no clue.. imagine that

Sounds like the thermostat to me.

If you turn it up to 80 to turn it on, can you drop it back down to 70 with it still staying on?? Or does it just turn off once you drop it below 80?

I went digital after viewing a members mods on this site last year. Went with a RiteTemp from Home Depot. Easy to set temperature and adjustable settings for the temperature swing. --Rob
