Genesis 3.0 / concertone zx800 question

Hi let me first say I'm a first time poster but long time viewer and love this forum very very helpful to say the least. Now to my question and I'm sure it's simple. I have the genesis 3.0. How do I hook it up to direct tv in order to have surround. Do I go from hdmi in back of stereo to direct tv reciever? Or do I go from back of stereo to back of tv. Just asking before I start cutting holes lol. Mine is a 06 and has no hdmi ports. Anyways thank you for your time, Jerry

Also what would be the hdmi process for playing PS3 on surround sound. I have tons of hdmi cables and RCA Plugs. I don't mind utilizing 1 hdmi cable between ps3,DVD, and satellite. Thought I'd throw that in there to kill 2 birds with 1 stone

The HDMI on the radio is an "OUT" only unfortunately.
It goes right to the TV's HDMI "IN"

There is an optical audio input (as well as several stereo line level inputs) in the rear of the unit. You can output the optical out of the sat receiver or TV (if equipped) or the L/R outputs to the radio for surround sound.

I use a three port HDMI switch to automatically select between my laptop computer and the Concertone HDMI output.

Herm, thank you for the quick response. Optical audio is new to me and not exactly sure what it is to be honest but I do have it installed on mine. So what would be the best to run the hdmi(as an output) for surround sound mainly for direct tv. I noticed on the back of my direct tv reciever I only have 1 hdmi slot. So I guess I would run hdmi from stereo to direct tv reciever, and then either RCA plugs or S video from direct reciever to TV? I am kind of new to this so I'm sorry if these are dumb questions

Thanks again jerry

HDMI would be run from receiver to TV. Then sound can be run from TV to stereo via optical (if available) or stereo line cables.

Indy thanks makes much better sense now. One last question to minimize my wires hanging(only thing I dislike about this TT). Does Walmart sell this optical audio wire?

Most likely. However you might get a better deal here:

TOSLINK Digital Audio Male to Male Cable, Black, 12ft

or a shorter length like 6 feet or even 3 if it will fit your installation.

They are cheap enough to get a couple and fit to your set up.

As far as your ps3 the way I hooked mine up was HDMI from the ps3 to the TV then used the optical cable from the TV to the stereo for surround sound cause I use my ps3 for blue ray movies as well as games for the kids
