Genesis GT-3.0. Surround sound

Hi, my first time here. Just picking up our rockwood fifth wheel 8260, and playing with the genesis system. Wondering: if you're watching TV, can you get the surround sound through the genesis or do you get it only if you are on satellite or cable?
It worked great with a DVD CD and Radio. Love the surround sound.
Thanks, Gina:

My surround sound works with my television on cable or satellite. If hooked up properly and the GT-3.0 set to AUX 2 should work.

Genesis GT-3.0. Surround sound

Ok, Thank You. Then I am assuming then since I don't have satellite and i am currently not hooked to cable, that watching TV through just the antenna does not provide surround sound through the Genesis GT 3.0.

Five speakers are provided in the living area overhead, but they are not wired for 5.1 in the back of the unit. This can be done with a little work.

Yes, you can get surround sound through your Genesis 3.0 while using the antenna. Our TT came wired correctly. Make sure you're using the correct "mode" on your Genesis unit. It took us a few tries to get it correct. I'm not at home, or else I'd tell you exactly what mode. I think its AUX 1 or 2.

Make sure the Genesis is set to AV1 and not AU1. They look similar on the display. Also, the way they wire it at the factory requires you to have the tv volume up and it is strictly left and right stereo. For true 5.1 surround, you'll need to run a fiber optic cable from the back of the tv to the back of the Genesis.

To answer the question----------

To answer the question, "Will the surround sound work with the TV on local channels" Yes it will, as stated you have to select AV1 I believe. There was a little sticker that came with the plastic cover that indicated AV-1, AV-2, AU-1 AU-2 and what they were used for. I taped the sticker to inside the door just below the TV. I also ran a HDMI, a a fiber optic cable from the radio to the TV.

Wink Genesis

Thank you everyone. Your help has been amazing. I did not have the stickers that indicated what settings do what. Sure enough I have the Genesis set to AV2 and we have coach speaker surround sound.
These Covered Wagons have come along ways since our pioneer ancestors.
Talk to you all soon.
Cheers and Happy Trails!

Although my Genesis GT 3.0 and television, using DISH Network satellite, and regular old RCA audio cables seems to work fine. By using a HDMI cable and fiber optic cables what benefit would I see? I not up on all the newer audio/video technology.
