Hard start capacitor

Can anyone tell me the part number and a source for a hard start capacitor for a Dometic 15k air conditioner?

There are 2 ways to do this. Both will work.
1 . Use the supco spp6 in the above link.
2. Get the serial number of your unit , ( go on the roof and remove cover, verify no hard start, get serial number) then look up optional dometic hard start capacitor for your unit and order online. Amazon?. This will preserve your warranty.
The odds of a problem in the warranty period is low but I see you have a new unit so something for you to consider. I needed a hard start cap for my unit and ended up going with the dometic cap for $20 more. Good luck.

One additional question after reading that thread: does the hard start capacitor replace the original capacitor or supplement it as an add on?

It is an add on and supplement the original capacitor.

Be VERY careful with these capacitors. They need to be discharged before working on them. They are like a giant 120 volt battery when charged up and can take a long time to self discharge unless a bleeder resistor is part of the air conditioner and hard start capacitor design.

Always short across the terminals of the capacitor with a screw driver to make sure it is depleted before handling it. You can get quite a shock if it is charged and you touch both terminals.

I just installed this on my unit, appears to be working good. I've had trouble with the unit struggling to restart with the air directed to the ducts. The techs at Fun Town RV immediately recommended a hard start capacitor, which they did not have in Stock. Short term it appears to help, time will tell long term.

The electrical portion of the install was super easy, as explained above. However the second capacitor was too large to fit inside the housing with the run capacitor. Securing the new capacitor outside the housing was a bit of a task.
