Help with satellite hook up

I purchased a 2017 heritage glenn 299re travel trailer. It has outside hook ups for cable and satellite. Problem is when I connect to the outside port for satellite from the dish it doesn't work, but if I run the wire directly to the receiver from the dish it works fine. I have a cable going to the receiver from the satellite port inside the camper but it still doesn't work. It's like its not getting any power from the receiver to the dish if the dish is connected to the camper first. Sorry if this is confusing kinda hard to explain. Thanks for any help.

Have had bad connectors on cable....And loose connections....I use an extra cable attached to sat connection outside, then bring loose end inside....At the inside wall plate, I use an ohm meter and check the outer ( ground side of coax) at the cable and wall plate.....Then do the same for the solid center power wire....Checks the factory wiring.....You're looking for continuity at the plug and cable

Is it an auto dish or manual? Most trailers have splitters and the such in the wiring and these do not play well with the power that needs to pas through the coax to power the auto dish setups. They need to be a special kind of splitter.

Now, on mine the dish was not even hooked up behind the inside wall plate. When I did hook it up I had to remove it from the powered booster setup because that splitter messed it all up. Once I wired it to just a coax end (under the wall plate NOT in the line of the booster all worked well. BUT this only allows for the sat on the inside hookup (I am only have one inside) and does NOT work on the outside hookup (because I had to remove it from the splitter behind the wall plate).

Thanks everyone for the replies. Doc it's just a dish network dish or a tripod. The last camper I had a wildwood it had the cable and satellite connections on the outside. It worked great just plug into satellite on the outside and then go from satellite on the inside to the receiver and you had tv. On this one the same set up is not working for some reason. I'll try to pull the cover and check it.

Yes, make sure they are actually hooked up, mine where not. It was just stuck in the void by the wall plate. Also I THINK that even regular dish's need a satellite ready splitter IF there even is one. But my suspect would be to check the hookups behind the wall plate.

That's why I suggested using an extra cable to trouble shoot connections and cable runs

We have a 2016 Prime Time Crusader Lite 5th wheel, I also found that the cable and satellite connections were cross labeled. When I connect satellite to the connection marked cable, everything works as advertised. I just re-labeled ours.

Why not just move the cables?
