High pitch whine/ AM radio?

When trying to listen to AM radio I get a high pitched whine that comes over the radio when I turn on a 12V light. If I turn on 2 it gets worse and you can't listen to the radio. If all 12V lights are off there is only a faint whine.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

TIA

Please help us help you!
What BRAND and MODEL of "radio" are you talking about.
Is it a Concertone or something else?
Does it happen when the trailer is plugged into shore
power? Does it happen when you're on battery power?
Both?

I'll take a wild guess and say maybe it's interference from
the cooling fan in your power center.
This could possibly be corrected by addition of a filter
available from Radio Shack.
Others here have done this successfully.
Hopefully someone will post the part # for the filter.

Sorry I left out that this happens with the factory Concertone ZX700. I have also noticed it, although not as bad when I plug in a portable radio to the outside outlet.
I have never tried it when not connected to shore power FWIW.
The unit is in storage for the winter now but I'm putting my list of "things to do" together for Spring.
Thanks!

Are you running an inverter anywhere? The converter comes with the camper, converts AC to DC to charge the battery, run the lights, etc. An inverter goes the other way? Do you have a solar charger? Has anything been added to the system? Helpful to know of any modifications.

No inverters or modifications to anything electrical.

I would suggest trying it without shore power. Then plug it to shore power and verify it is whining. Then start flipping breakers one at a time till it goes away, assuming it is only whining when on shore power. Just as a guess, sounds like you may have a noisy converter causing this.

AM radio has some issues no matter what you do. There are areas I drive through on my way to work that cause the radio have so much interference that it's barely audible, then it clears up. I know 12 volt fans can interfere with signals so as stated the ground could be the problem including near the Converter which is also charging the battery.

Thanks to everyone so far that has offered up some things to look into.
If it is "noise" from say a fan is there a way to clean up the power going to the radio to help reduce the effect?

Hopefully double checking all your grounds will take care of it. Using filters should be a "last resort".
