how long to use fireplace

We're on the shore again with cool weather. After running the furnace a cycle, we've been leaving the fireplace on for even heat. Any opinions on how long is too long? Don't want to wear it out prematurely and unsure if it has the longevity of a space heater.

Used mine for a week straight, just set it to the temp we want and let it do it's thing. No different than my little space heater at home garage.
