Intertek fireplace insert disassembly and repair

While we were out over Thanksgiving we used the fireplace almost continuously to keep the camper warm. It developed an annoying squeak. I took it apart and figured out what had to be lubricated.

I made this video after the fact to show how it's assembled and functions as well as show how it can be modified to facilitate lubrication in the future without requiring full disassembly.

We have the same fireplace and just noticed tonight that the blower does not switch between the hi/lo position, it just blows at the same speed. Any suggestions as to what is wrong? Great video BTW!

Most electric fireplaces run at the speed you set it for. Many don't have more than one speed for the fan. The high heat setting is for max of 1500 watts and low setting is for 750 watts, it does not change the fan speed. The motor has 1 hot wire and 1 neutral wire and 1 pair of poles which allows just 60 rpm.

Excellent, but how are you going to explain all the scratches on the dining room table to the DW?
BTW, I now know how simple it is to get rid of the whole thing and turn the space into useable storage. Thank you for a great job.

Good video.

But a question: wouldn’t it be easier to take the back off instead of the glass front?

It looked like three screws on each side and one or so on top and the back would have come off, and the flame motor would be right there.

It don’t have an Intertek insert, I have a Dimplex, and that is how the flame motor is accessed.

Just checked on mine. The blower fan is a single speed. The hi/lo heat button seems to slightly increase the wattage. Hope that helps.

Lol. She bought that table specifically because she liked the distressed look. Brand new it looked like I could've picked it up on the side of the road. I'm just adding character.

Maybe. Now I have to take it out and look. 😀

Lol. You are correct. It's about 15 total screws as there are a pile on the rear around the edge, but the rear cover would come off more easily than the front.

If you watch some of my other videos, it's certainly not the first time I've done something the hard way.

I'll probably make another video showing the correct way to disassemble as if you pull the rear and the top, you've pretty much got everything you need and don't have to fiddle with the scrim.

Thanks!

Fantastic video. Sure would be nice if RV manufacturers would produce 'How to' videos like this.
