Inverter or regular Generator

Torn between two generators, one is a Campion 4000W regular generator (Lowes $600.00) which advertises Volt Guard to protect electronics. The other is Firman W03081 3,300W inverter generator (Costco $800.00) I need to power my air, TV and a few lights. Any thoughts or recommendations from the knowledgable crowd.

Due to noise, size and weight, personally I'd never consider a conventional generator.

First question, will you be using it in a campground or only a home backup or in isolated areas?

If you plan on using it in a campground, it's a no-brainer. Get the inverter generator.

Where do you live that the regular Champion 400 costs twice as much as usual?
I own that generator and you can get it many places for $300.
I use it for home power and would NEVER use it in a campground.

As far as the Firman, it looks like a clone of the Wen. It is new on the market and have never read of anyone owning one.

You can get the Champion 3100w inverter generator for that price or less. And it's well reviewed and tons of people own it.

Including yours truly, the 75537i with remote electric start. I was lucky enough to get it for $595 when the price on Amazon recently dropped for two days, although it has since gone back up to $895. Trust me, the remote start ROCKS.

I live in Canada, I would have bought the one on Amazon if they shipped to Canada, that was a great deal!

I had a 4000watt Champion construction style gen and although it was very reliable it was extremely loud and heavy, not really a great gen for campsites. I eventually sold it and bought a Champion 3100w Inverter gen and absolutely love it. It is half the weight and runs very quiet. I would highly recommend taking a look at one.

Oddly, our last three RV's have had Onan on board generators. I guess those are "regular" generators, but never saw an external "regular" gen that I would use for camping. Inverter gens seem quieter and seem to be better built for travel.

Your onboard Onan is totally enclosed for one and it's within the body of your Rv which muffles the noise. Not a valid comparison to an open frame lawnmower engine powered racket maker sitting outside and irritating neighboring campers...
