the amount of battery power to run the propane side of the fridge, will be minimal, compared to lights and furnace usage.

putting a block of ice in the fridge is just not worth the hassle, mess and possible damage.

I bought one of these to have more freezer space. 85qt and will hold a temp of -8 to 50F and works on both AC/DC. DC draw is about 5.5 amps when running, 1.0 amp AC.

Thanks to all that have replied. High percentage (100%) seemed to believe it was a dumb idea! Have to agree!

After a multiday drive we will be camping at Arches NP for 5 days (no hookups) but could get ice in town (half hour drive) I guess once or twice. So will take a cooler.

Propane option caused me a headache last time I tried it and sucked my battery dry in a couple of hours. Bad battery, bad connections probably the cause but haven't tried the propane option since. Cheap marine battery, first priority is probably use of water pump & lights.
