Is my refrigerator done?

My Dometic RM 2852 in my 04 Cedar Creek has quit cooling. I put it on gas and it lights but still not cool. No ammonia smell or anything. It has been running for the last three years.

How long did you allow it to cool before checking?

These fridges need a good overnight start before cool.

I've installed fridge fans outside and inside and it still takes a strong 6 hours to get close to temp.

So, lots of reasons for a previously working fridge to stop cooling.

HOWEVER, Not cooling (AT ALL - after 24 hours no temperature drop) on gas (which lights) or AC points directly at an ammonia leak OR a bad thermistor/main board. Those components are common to both.

Look for a yellow stain around the boiler section. If there, you are looking at replacing the coils (the company I used to point to is out of business now) or the complete fridge.

If the main board, you can buy a replacement here: Dinosaur Electronics Home. High quality circuit boards for RV appliances.

If the thermistor, there is an up grade here: Dometic Thermistor Repair Kit

Glenn, all of your posts were in response to HarrynSally's questions, not Redragtop's. Your posts can be found here: http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ems-69258.html

Check the probe if it will light and then go out. There are 3 dimensions for the probe to be set to for it to operate. Get your manual out and start measuring. If even one is off, it will not work. It took me about 20 minutes to get them all correct when my unit was brand new. Once I got them set, it has worked flawlessly ever since.

My fridge had been running constant for three years. When we got there last week it wasn't cooling but must have just stopped that day as it was about 55 in the ref . I turned it to propane and the burner lit and the round pipe got hot but the coils on the back never got warm. The control seem to work as far as turning it on , off. Gas, and auto. There is power on the rec and propane to burn. Over the weekend I switched back and forth between gas and electric and it never cooled. Only thing I found was a big wasp next on the coils but I can't imagine it being enough to stop air flow through to the top vent which is open. No ammonia smell or yellow residue. ????

Check post #8 by Herk, He attached the steps to do it, that's what it sounds like to me, it will be a good starting point.
