Sorry if this has already been discussed in another thread, too lazy to hunt it down.
I'm in a Sunseeker 3170 with COMPUTER ZONE (NOT kids zone, you get MORE CABINETS if you get computer zone) and for the first time I have a JACK instead of Batwing.
With JACK, I have found I get some channels I could not get before (in places I have been to before) and I cannot get some channels I could get on Batwing.
I do like that you don't have to remember to crank it down when you leave. However, there is an on/off switch, I guess it doesn't matter if you forget to turn it off in transit. If you had kids, kids can attempt to watch TV while in transit with the JACK.... I don't have kids. That's why I have computer zone.
Also, the blue lights on the JACK are so freaking bright, they light up the front section even when it's dark. You can see the lights from the bedroom. I like to watch TV in bed with the sleep timer, so I need to keep the JACK on. Keeps me awake at night. Ok, I could shut the accordian doors to shut that out, but my cat sleeps with me, and it's litter box is in the front section, need to keep doors open to allow his highness access to his litter box.
For me, jury is still out on batwing versus Jack. Anyone else?

I replaced the Batwing with the Jack on my last 5er, I would have to say, wow what a difference the Jack made. As for the glowing blue lights, my antenna positioner was located in a cupboard so I did not see the lights, but I will agree that they are bright.
I put a Jack in my last trailer, I really liked it. Maybe mine was different but, I could turn off the signal meter, (led's) once I located the strongest signal. There was a switch on the left side of the positioner box that you could turn on and off that was not part of the amplifier.
You have to have the amplifier on to use the signal meter, but then you could turn just the meter off.

You will get far more bang for your buck by adding a "wingman" to your Sensar Batwing antenna.
Those extra channels are due to the increased range of the Wingman to pull in digital UHF channels by adding leading elements to the stock antenna.
This is what I have in my new 5er, I took one of the WINGMAN antenna's that I had on the old antenna that I replaced with the Jack so it was just laying around. Reuse/Recycle!!!
Herk, Can you mount that Wingman on either side of the antenna?

While it has to face in the direction of the white housing, (to focus the incoming signals on the loop antenna in the white amp case), I believe the entire head can be moved to the other side. I never checked, but from being up there I think it is a matter of unbolting the amp head and turning it to face the opposite direction.

Thanks for the reply's. I'm not quite sure how much clearance I have for a Wingman before it tags the front A/C.

I will never have the need for a feed from a cable, satellite, or antenna source.
How much data do you have on your 4g plan? And how often do you use it?
Do you know how much data is used in an hour's worth of watching?

I have a dedicated hot spot Verizon with 5 GB per month. If one streams a non HD movie, it will take about 350MB. Thats about 2 hours of TV watching. I only use it for road trips for the kids and wife.
And that being said, with some of the camp grounds offering free wifi..all you need is a wireless router running DD-WRT and you can do all kinds of magical things

I had a wingman on my last two RV's. I couldn't tell a difference. Maybe I travel to a lot of remote places where it wouldn't make much difference. Ok, I was in North Dakota last year and I pulled in a Canadian channel that I think you can get anywhere close to the Canadian border.

Today at the park I'm hosting at,, someone took the "wing" off their batwing and just attached an antenna to the remaining "pole" of the batwing. Strange.

As for streaming TV, no way for me. I have a five gig plan and streaming music uses 100 meg an hour, streaming TV uses 350 meg, as someone said. I try NEVER to go over limit. I just got a Verizon JetPack and to me it seems to use up megs faster than the cellular modem.
Oh, in an RV newsletter I get, someone said, if you are on a 5 gig limit, DO NOT DO "cloud computing." The author of that article said "cloud computing" will really eat your gigs up.

Its all dependent on the quality of the files you are downloading. If your pulling down .mkv files and .flac files, your right you will eat up bandwidth. If however your pulling .aac or .mp3 one would e fine with a 5 GB dataplan.

You should never count on campground wifi (free or otherwise) to do anything. Odds are stacked against you big-time.
No kidding. RV Parks are now saying, email only, no streaming. Streaming hogs the bandwidth and nobody else can get on. One large RV park I stay at even requests that you shut your laptop after each session to release the bandwidth.
