Jensen 12V TV power supply plug

This is what the inside of the 12v 'cigarette lighter' plug looks like. Mine melted due to a bad fuse connection so I cracked it open. The plug always worked itself out of the socket anyway so I will be hard-wiring it. With a fuse. I didn't know if there was any kind of regulating circuitry in it but the only components inside are the indicator LED and a resistor (underneath) for it.

I just got done replacing my 4th cord. I'm taking someone else's idea and getting the Jensen power converter. No more melted power cords for me.

My solution was to cut off the melted cigarette plug and hard-wire the power cable directly to the back of power socket/antenna amp unit (it was the most conveniently located 12v power source). I stuck an old in-line fuse holder back there too just in case. I haven't fried the Jensen TV after 7 days/nights of camping...yet.

I too experienced the dreaded melted 12v plug. TV worked great for a year, then last week I started having intermittent power issues with it. I thought the springs on the plug were getting loose as it would power up again if I rotated the plug in the socket. It finally occurred to me to pull the plug out and look at it. This is what I found.....

Fortunately because of this thread I had a phone number to call at Jensen (ASA). I called on Tuesday morning and UPS dropped off the new plug today. ASA has redesigned the plug so it has a metal tip that won't melt...at least not at the temps that the plastic one did...and made the whole plug portion much smaller. Very quick service, thank you Jensen and thank you for standing behind your product with customer support. I thought about getting a 110 to 12v converter to plug in for power but hopefully this replacement plug will solve the problem.

Just saw this thread for the first time. Checked my plugs on our 2 Jensen sets. Both plastic tips. Called the 1-877 # and their shipping out 2 new plugs to me asap.
