Loud POP and smoke from fuse box

Hi all-

We plugged in our generator today to recharge and after about an hour we heard a huge pop noise. A few seconds later, we saw smoke coming out of the fuse panel. We unplugged the generator and everything seems to be fine (fuses and breakers ok), but nervous about using the generator again.

Any idea what might have happened?

Thanks for any help!

Something may have blown in the converter, such as a capacitor. Disconnect a battery cable then run the generator and see if you have lights. If the lights don't work then your converter is fried. Have a fire extinguisher handy just in case.

Thanks for the quick reply - looks like that is it. We have power to the outlets and microwave when on the generator, but no lights, refrigeration, or heat. However, after about 5 min plugged in to the generator we had another loud pop. Not trying that again...

Think it is safe to use the camper on battery power only? We have panels to charge the battery and would hate to have to cancel our trip.

Sorry to hear that.
Yes, you should be quite safe to run on battery power.

You can turn the breaker to the converter off and run the generator to power the rest of the 120 volt items.

You Blew the Capacitors in the Converter, that happened to me while plugged into 50 amp power recently. it burned up lots of stuff. Not Good. You need to find out why your Gen Set blew up your converter. and be prepared to find other things burned up like your Ref and TV.

Please provide some info on the generator, make, model, size. Turn off breaker for converter and you should be OK running on battery.

I'm sure I'm not the only one curious about what caused the pops while running your rv on a generator. Can you give us an update?

Agree with Netgain. Is this the first time you have used this generator with your RV if not have you purchased any different adapters to connect to the RV?
