Microwave is a goner

We have a 2017 Forest River Class C Sunseeker we bought in San Diego in July 2016. One year later the microwave died. So hubby removed it, replaced the fuse with a new $10 and tested it in our house. Didn't work. He then took it to an appliance dealer for them to check it and had to pay $90 up front. They checked it and told us the mother board went out and cannot be replaced because they don't make it anymore!

We buy a Walmart microwave which fits the frame, kind of. Hubby says he had to custom fit the new microwave to the frame... drill new holes, cut the frame to fit the new microwave. I'm not comfortable with this because we just got this RV!!! We live in New Mexico and can't take the RV in to get it a new microwave custom made for this RV!!!!

Another issue us the TV in the bedroom-the DVD player dues seem to work either. So disappointing especially since this RV is supposed to be BRAND NEW!!!!!

Is it a Magic Chef microwave?

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...en-135089.html

I had posted this in classifieds a few months back... make an offer if it matches what you need to replace...

Both items are NOT made by Forest River. You should vent your frustration at the appliance mfg. RV microwaves are pretty standard dimensionally wise. Measure your opening and go shopping. Since ours was a normal under cabinet mount, I simply went to Best Buy and bought what we liked. Took it home and installed it. Its not rocket science, and if yours is built in it should be pretty easy to frame it in. Stain to match andmit should look good. Radio? Same deal. Determine the opening size, go to someplace like Crutchfield.com and look for what will fit, buy it and install. There is way more in life to be concerned with than a couple of cheap items installed by FR.

That is three electronics failures on a brand new trailer. My first question is have you been using a generator that is not supplying clean power? If not then disregard. I have seen dirty power fry sensitive electronics.

Most appliances installed in RV's have a warranty from the manufacturer that is longer than the FR warranty. Contact the manufacturer directly they may very well send you a replacement under the warranty. Furion did that for me with no questions asked except for the expected info off the product.

On a seperate note if your not using a surge/EMS system I would recommend that you look into installing one.

Mine crapped out too. Came on by itself and shattered the tray and melted the carousel. I'm looking at a MCD990B. A reviewer on Amazon said it fit with some modifications. Anyone here used that one?

Microwave shutting off intermittently

Our 2010 Solera came with a Magic Chef 900w Microwave that has been reliable until recently. It just randomly shuts off during, or at the onset of setting the time and power to start cooking. After a few minutes - it magically turns back on sometimes, and the clock is set back to 0.00 (Zero) I can try again to press start or select a time & power level, and it might work - or might shut off at the onset again. This started in June, and the intermittent nature is that I have been able to 'limp' along.

IT is not the circuit breaker, I checked. All other AC power features are functioning perfectly. Not related to having TV or furnace on. Just the microwave shuts down....

Does anybody have any experience with this issue?

With all the problems regarding electronic equipment (even the most primitive coffee makers have a circuit board) I have to ask, do you know how stable the power is at the places you camp. We experience at least 10 times a year that our EMS cuts the power for various reasons.

I have - and always use - a 30Amp surge protector, and power is all good.

I have seen that happen when the thin Mylar connector ribbon fails, slightest change will cause the symptom. I have also seen the screws being loose on the control board cause erratic operation(bad grounding).
With the screws easy fix; if it's the ribbon probably new unit is in order as the part is usually not available without the control board too and will be expensive if even available now.
