Microwave issues with overheating

We have an issue with our 2010 Forest River 29ft travel trailer, the microwave overheats when using and shuts down and sometimes power breakers trip when using microwave. Breaker is on but microwave shuts off for about 15minutes and cannot use, anyone running into this problem?

I heard of something like this once where the installers did not take the protective plastic wrap off the microwave before installing it. Otherwise I would guess some other type of venting issue.

Also is the hood vent outside and the microwave connected? We don't always open up the vent outside, maybe that is part of the problem.

You need to check, but there's probably two circuits for the camper's 120V outlets. On mine, one of those circuits also has the converter on it. The max wattage that any 15A circuit can handle is 1800W if the voltage is at 120V...less if the voltage is lower. Some hair dryers consume 1800W on the max setting so I can see that it may cause a trip particularly if anything else at all is on that circuit. The electric fry pan causing trips may be the same issue.

You could try pulling out the microwave and see if it operates correctly while sitting on the countertop.

Thanks for the info, it is very helpful!! Will check out the microwave and be more careful about running to many things at once and overloading the cirucuits.

This issue just happened to us. Our Rockwood is only 4 months old. We were forced inside due to storms and used our Magic Chef to cook dinner for everybody. It shut down after awhile for 15 minutes and started up again. During that 15 minutes, I didn't know what was going on so I checked the fuses and breaker and then tried it on a different outlet. I did notice it was pretty hot. My wife is scared to use it again.

DO NOT use this microwave till you get back to the dealer.
It should be replaced under warranty.

Sounds like it could be a bad Magnatron (the part that emits the microwaves). Very expensive to replace because of the microwave energy seals that must be maintained. The microwave itself should NEVER get hot if it is working properly.

It's interesting because it sounds like the same problem Lunear is having. It works, then shuts off all power for about 15 minutes and then all of a sudden comes back on. I too thought it was due to poor ventilation because both the inside and outside of it was HOT! I agree with you Herk that this doesn't seem normal and I will take it to the dealer.

We have a 2011 FR Cardinal and have had the same microwave problem. Magic Chef told us there is a heat sensor in the microwave and if microwave is too hot after cookin it shuts of the microwave. If you put a cup of water in the microwave as soon as you are done cooking it absorbs the extra heat and it won' t shut down. They replaced ours and we have a new one that is doing the same thing. Magic Chef saus no warranty because the new one doesn't start the warranty time over. Is this right?

I wouldn't stand for that.

A continuing issue under warranty is still under warranty till resolved

Mine does this and was replaced by the dealer. I guess my question is why does it get too hot after cooking? Is there not enough ventilation? I think it's a safety issue.

We noticed that ours sounded different. We had the dealer check it and the fan wasn't running. It is being replaced under the extended warranty.

Had one in the sticks&bricks that shut down when cooking something that created too much steam. It would come back on eventually. Got fed up and bought a new one

Magic Chef Microwave overheating

We have the same issue in our 2011 Sunseeker 2650DS, it shut off, started back up in 15 minutes. The outside vent was open, exhaust fan on and had one burner running on the stove which may have caused it to overheat. We have run this before for 20 minutes with no issues but no stove burnrs were lit.
