Your going to have to fish the wires from the ceiling unit to the thermostat.

Why not use a wireless thermostat?

Already bought this one and not a problem to run the wires. Just need a negative 12v lead, I was hoping I could get it off the convertor panel somewhere but if I need to build a circuit I will. Thanks

Isn't there a 12v negotiable lead at the control center at the unit now ?

The converter will have a ground there but what about a close overhead light ?
Or ceiling fan ?
