Need help with fridge

Hi, I am new and live full time in our 37' salem, we have it all skirted, but our frig is having trouble keeping up with the cold temps here in Montana, it has gotten to 20 below and when the temps reach that the frig stops working, it starts up again when it warms up again, but does anyone have any ideas on preventing this, at least I don't lose my frozen food it just goes outside

I am no expert on this subject, are you using gas or electric? maybe if you are using gas something is freezing up or triggering some kind of thermal device, try electric and if you are alraedy using electric try gas, if both do it something is getting triggerd wether it is a capacitor or thermal. couple more thing you might check

Operate refrigerator on gas and look at burner to see if flame is blue. If not, have repairs performed.
--Check and ensure there are no obstructions in ventilation system.
--Check to see that control knobs are not stripped causing a false thermostat reading.
--When packing the refrigerator, do not pack so tightly as to shut off internal air flow.

we had some similiar issues last winter, i flipped over to gas and it would run when it was ugly cold, then we went back on electirc when it warmed up.

but it was only 19 for a few days.

i would also check the manufacters site on operating temps and altitude

propane also has a hard time to at coooooolllllllld temps vaporing off to provide gas flow.

You didn't mention the type of fridge you have...that may help get you answers. (ie...I have electric only)

Thanks for all the replies, it is a Dometic American model# 2652. It runs off of both electric and propane. We have tried both and no luck yet. It is beginning to warm up, last year it did this too and took awhile for it to come back. I have the number to to Company and am thinking of calling them.
Has anyone replaced their frig with an energy eff home refrig, we live full time in ours and don't plan on moving it.

My parents have a 1972 Airstream that is set up at one place. When they got it the refridgerator was missing and they went to Sams Club and purchased a small apartment style unit. Lost the cabinets that were below the original but it does work well and has never failed them.

That is a good Idea and much cheaper , if you wanted to go that route, my parents did the same thing!!!

Thanks again, just found out there is a recall on the frig and it is a fire hazard and should not be using it, I guess I can get my local RV company to fix it with some kind of kit, it is suppose to be free repair, but with us being the second owners, I don't know. Will have to do some calling come Monday.

My previous Keystone trailer had the Dometic fridge and it was recalled. I sold it about the time it was recalled, so I didn't worry about it. My tech said to just use it in electric mode...not gas.

Our park trailer came with a residential fridge...that was a huge plus for me.

We have finally made a decision and we are replacing the frige with a small apt size one we found at Home Depot. I won't even lose my cupboard space below either. Thanks for everyones help.
