Update number 2
Thanks to all who responded.
I am one very unhappy Winegard customer!
Turns out the problem is with the satellite. I hope everyone else who owns a carryout from Winegard has better luck with their model.
If you have problem with your out-of-warranty product from Winegard, then you can pay to mail it back to them (in Iowa) and let them charge you $70 to see if it's worth fixing and then pay for the return. Okay, I guess I can maybe understand that, except it's pretty disappointing to learn they have no authorized repair dealers anywhere else in the country.
What really ticks me off is their customer service. When I called them, I could never get a person and had to leave a message for a return call. They suggest on the line that you send them an e-mail instead. I did that, too, and still am waiting for a reply. I finally did connect with a technician who told me to check the voltage in three areas. If everything was fine there, then I'd have to send it in for repair. However, without directly saying it, she implied I should "upgrade" instead, meaning pay $650 for a new one. This, after I paid whatever, $400-$500, for a product that lasted maybe 10 times over the course of the 3-4 years I had it. That's all it worked! The only wear and tear it had was riding in the motor home--it wasn't dropped, nothing fell on it, etc. When I e-mailed her back, I asked her for a rough estimate of a cost to fix to determine whether it was worth paying for the postage and review, and she has never replied! For $50 I can buy a dish and learn how to point it myself! I also am going to see if I can find someone local who might try to fix it, but to say I am disappointed with Winegard is an understatement!
I'm going to whine in the general discussion section of this forum just because I'm irritated. If someone else is thinking about buying a Winegard carryout, they'll have my input at least.
Thanks again for all of your replies!
