Need new tv. 12 volt or 110? Which would you choose?

I have 1 tv that just stopped working. There is power to the 12 volt outlet, so I’m guessing the tv went dead. For replacement, do I stay with the 12 volt, or switch over to 110? Any advantage to 12 volt, other than not needing shore power?

If you are sure its a 12v TV and doesn't need 120v, no, there is no other advantage to a 12v other than it's usable on battery power without having hookups. They are significantly more expensive than normal 120v TV's and some say they are built more rugged to take the jostling of travel but I replaced my 12v in my last camper about 2 years after I bought it and had a normal 120v tv in there for 3 years when I traded it in, still working just fine.

We camped with hookups 85% of the time and the times we didn't, I had a genny if I needed it for the AC or TV for a big game or race.

IMHO, there is no advantages to a 12v tv.
They cost more, have less features and rarely are smart tvs.
For way less money, a 110v AC tv will be bigger, Smarter and have more features. All you need is a 150w inverter plugged into the 12v DC round outlet.

I have a 110v outlet right next to the 12v for this tv. My limitation is size. This tv doubles as a door to a storage bin in our bedroom, so I am restricted to that size. Looks like swapping it out would be easy. Thanks for the feedback!

Get a 120v and an inverter. I run a 32 inch and DVD player on about 4 amps on 400 w inverter.

We camp frequently without shore power. We carry a 12v blue-ray player and a bunch of movies for those evenings when outdoor weather is not good. A 12v TV is a must for us.

Advantages can go both ways. In your vehicle you probably have 12V all the time but in limited locations. 110V sets might offer more choices and could be a bit more stable. We have two 110V sets and have never had a situation where it became a problem or annoyance.

I have a vizio 22" in my bedroom that I bought at Costco for around $100 dollars and it is 120 Volts but after buying it I found out that the plug which is a transformer and it drops it down to 12Volt DC so it was just a matter of buying the adapter cord to go from the twelve volt plug in. It works great being led it uses very little power and so far I've had it for three years now and still going strong. Since my trailer only has the twelve volt plug in the bedroom it also was great since not having to use a extension cord.

Check the fuse in your 12v plug. Screw off the small nut. There is a spring that pushes the button. If the fuse is ok, stretch the spring a tad, reassemble and test. Check that plug for heat, melted plastic, etc.
Replacement plugs are available from Amazon. I think the vendor is ASA.

Skip the DC route and stick with AC for your TV.

It cracks me up how many people still don't know or understand the standard AC voltage that we use here in North America. 120 VAC. It's been the standard for decades.

Did FR change to 110 because of the 12V troubles ???
