I don't think what you're seeing is normal. Mine doesn't have such short on/off cycles. It sounds to me like the temp sensor on the condenser isn't attached properly or isn't working properly. Another thing: Mine never comes on at all unless the outside ambient is over ~80•F. You're in Oregon? I'm guessing that it hasn't been that warm there, and especially not at night.

Mine makes noise also. You can fix by changing out the two cooling fans behind the fridge with better fans. I would not disable them, in fact I added two more fans and It Helped the fridge cool better in the hotter weather.

Do a search on this forum. If you talking about a high pitched or very high pitched noise. Some have replaced the fans with inexpensive quiet computer fans, it seems to be a somewhat common problem. I don't think you get much help from Dometic.

Barry, we are in OR, but strangely it has been that warm here. It's been overy 80 most days (which is really nice :-)). I was wondering about the short on/off cycles as it seems like you'd build more of a hysterisys into the system. But in my searches I've found others that have complained about the exact same thing. So maybe it was a particular model or year.

dcorn, I'd like to swap them out for nicer fans but I'd have to remove the whole fridge to do it and it definitely isn't worth it unless it's a warranty fix. I doubt Dometic will change anything under warranty but I'll give them a call and describe the behavior to see if we can get something done. Otherwise I think we'll either just live with it or I'll add some extra fans that are quiet and always running to see if we can keep these others off.

I'll let you know what dometic says when I call them tomorrow. Thanks.

It must be a phantom then, that only some of us hear. You must be the lucky one.

But not at night. Something isn't right.

One add'l question about the fridge, what model is it, and what setting is it on?

The model number says Dometic DM2652LBFX. It was on "Auto" mode. It only has "on" and then a "gas" only selection. We had it "on" and with it in the "auto" mode running on AC. I've tried it on "gas" and it seems to do pretty much the same thing. There is no temp setting or any other controls.
