Observation of A/C units at Hershey Show

Just an observation of the 100+ units we toured yesterday at the Hershey RV Show.... Keep in mind the outside temp was approximately 78 and all units were in full sun but plugged into shore power.

When we would walk into a unit and it was nice and cool... Coleman/Mach.
Then... walk into a unit that was uncomfortable and/or blowing hot air... Dometic.

To a tee!

Guess I got lucky with my 13.5 Dometic. Camping a few weeks ago and it kept the TT at 73 degrees all day while the outside temp was 93. Full sun with no shading at all.
At some point during every day you suddenly realize nothing else productive is going to happen the rest of that day. For me, it usually occurs around 9 am.

No problems with my Dometic. The 15k unit cools the whole 42' Sandpiper. The BR unit only comes on late in day when it is hottest.
On 95+ days with 100% humidity, it stays around 72F inside. Sealing up all ducts, sealing end run of duct and sealing up holes internally on units paid off for me. Also opened up two return air ducts with 2" PVC pipe.

You were lucky it was only in the high 70's. Only day I could go was Wed, yeah with heat index 90's. In the morning no one had their A/C on. I said real loud in one unit boy I hope they have A/C going soon to look at everything. Few minutes later salesman put it on. Yeah some units were cooler than others. But I noticed people were fooling around with the air control and also the thermostats. Plus how many people were in an unit.

Domestic Junk

I have a 2015 378 Georgetown XL. I have had nothing but trouble with the Domestic units. Both units have been replaced and I am now waiting on the third unit for my bedroom. I certainly won't purchase another motorhome with a Domestic AC unit in it. So much for doing business with China.

My 2016 Pursuit - bought at last year's Hershey show - has a pair of Dometic Brisk Air II 13.5k units. It was like a meat locker in there at the show, and so far (knock wood) I have had no problems with them. I know there was an issue with these - a manufacturing process problem that was supposedly corrected. Hoping mine were made AFTER the fix.

My 18-month old 13.5K Dometic AC/heat pump unit will be replaced this week Wednesday (fortunately still under warranty). It's on our Coachmen PRISM 24J / Sprinter RV. Never really cooled us very well since we first purchased the RV new a year ago March. If it fails again - I'll certainly look at Coleman/Mach with your observation.
