Oh No — A/C trouble

we are out camping and of course no one works till Monday. Anyway, I cleaner the filter on the front house air conditioner and now when I turn it on it bzzes for about 1 or 2 minutes and goes out, no air... it's a dometic air conditioner. Let me know if you can help.

Thanks

If you set the fan to manual on the thermostat, does the fan run? It might be a relay or the fan motor, but usually when an AC fails, the compressor is the problem but the fan continues to work.

Go on roof and take cover off ac , try to spin blower fan by hand. Might be flat spot on armature on blower motor. If it then starts running it might get you through weekend till you can get new blower motor. The buzzing makes me think the blower is now running. Worth a try.

Unfortunately it sounds like the start capacitor has failed. I just had this happen on our front Dometic ac. You might spin the fan and get it going but the compressor probably won’t start either.

Your only option is to get a mobile tech out and even they may not have the part you need.

Do you still have your main ac operating?

Our AC went out just before our trip and we couldn't find anyone to come out and fix it. Our dealer was booked beyond our return date, so we just had to go anyway. Is there an organization that makes camp calls? I couldn't find one on line or asking people at the campgrounds. Most of the RV repair places in our area decided it wasn't worth it to have the service and stopped doing it. We are winding up taking it to our dealer now that we are back.

The same has happened to my ac.
Symptom....no fan run but compressor runs.
I could spin fan by hand and then the fan would run.
Cure..... replaced start capacitor.
No need to replace motor.
Be sure to observe safety protocols since the capacitor holds a charge. It’ll knock you off the roof if you touch the posts and it has a charge in it.
Also take a picture so you can duplicate connections.

I'm definitely hoping it is something like that. The blower runs, but, not sure the compressor is starting or running. I know there is also a "run" capacitor in there as well. Do you recall the price of the part? Where you got it? Thanks for your help.

This capacitor has dual purpose compressor and fan.
